Re: [Hornlist] 667 or 567?
Am I the only one who reads The asinine marketing text that follows these instruments around. What possible meaning are they trying to convey with the term "customized", especially when they go on to boast that critical operations are under computer control. It's probably fair to assume the manufacturing control on these instruments is so poor, no two are alike. This goes back to the Alex 103s so prevalent in Boston in the '60s. Every one was different. Some of the worst horns I've ever played were 103s. Interestingly, there was usually another quite experienced player who would claim the horn I couldn't stand to be the best he'd ever put lips to. Those were 'custom', hand made horns. I've always found the student versions of the custom Yamahas to average out to be better players than the expensive custom version, but the only other believers I find are the owners of the student horns, if they are advanced enough to appreciate the qualities of a well balanced instrument. If you find yourself at a horn gathering, try to organize a little time for the group to listen to the horns present being played by different players using different mouthpieces. Very quickly, the participants will gain some real understanding of instrument relationships. Think how valuable this information could be to really serious horn designers. -Original Message- From: Tom Fisher <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: horn@music.memphis.edu Sent: Wed, 23 Nov 2005 22:36:19 + (GMT) Subject: [Hornlist] 667 or 567? yes, its a 667v. I don't know what is up about the shiny brass, but if you look at the trigger and other bells and whistles, its significantly different from the 567. Re: [Hornlist] 667 or 567?
Usually it is unlacquered in the US market but this horn is available in a lacquered version from the factory (at no extra cost) and is marketed in other countries with a lacquered option. There are two lacquered 667V's in the horn studio at school. While they 567 and 667V strangely share the dual-plane system, the engraved caps give it away.
