On ubuntu you should _disable_ the RPM creation. The debian package was
created, so you are ready nonetheless.

I do not see the message about boost-found.
It should look like:

/usr/lib/libboost_system-mt.so;/usr/lib/libboost_filesystem-mt.so

2010-08-17 Thread Joergen Geerds
Based on Daniel's reply, this is probably something like a feature
request, since there doesn't seem to be the "infrastructure" in the
libpano to make this easily happen?

either way, it would be fun to have a bi-plane, tri-plane and quad-
pane projection with the controls mentioned above... I thought I saw
something like this in Helmut Dersch's PTStitcher 0.7... but it would
be great to have in hugin.

Thank you so much for all your help

Be our gues: why don't you give it a try. That code would go into
libpano, and hugin would have to be aware of the new parameters (which
is
done by libpano reporting to hugin the number of parameters that it expets).

[hugin-ptx] Triplane projection parameter question

2010-08-17 Thread Joergen Geerds
I posted triplane1.jpg and triplane2.jpg to explain:

First, I find the triplane projection fascinating, how it @##$%s
around with the perspective... great fun.

after playing with it, the alpha parameter controls how many "degrees"
the adjacent planes are "bend", 90 basically allows a 90 degree corner
to flatten out, which is great, and what I was looking for.
unfortunately, that would work only perfectly in a square room, with
the panorama taken from the perfect center... which didn't happen in
the example above.

additionally, the alpha parameter also moves the "fold"...

so, my question would be: is it possible to introduce a alpha-left and
separate alpha-right parameter to control the bending degrees on both
sides?
is it possible to introduce two more parameters: breakpoint left and
breakpoint right, to place the fold into the exact corners of a room?

and (considering that there will be considerable image stretching
involved) will the 3 planes still come together?

Bart: thank you for your advice to start a new thread, it was a good
idea.

what software do you use to convert the raw files? do you convert them into

> comes out sideways.

I've looked at the JPEGs in the ZIP file. They are created by Adobe Photoshop
CS3, so not out of camera. The EXIF tag for orientation says they are
horizontal, but a quick look tells me they should be vertical. I don't know
what introduced the error, but it is in the input images.

The quick fix is after the pano is out sideways to roll it 90° with the
numerical transform in the fast preview.

Are the ceiling and walls really so pink, or is there a color issue too? The
EXIF tag says color is uncalibrated, but that should normally not be a problem
as they all use sRGB.

me too. Hugin is designed for the *discerning panographer*. Knowing your
focal length multiplier is not a tech or coders issue, it's a panographer
issue (as in: know your gear). It is a code issue only in as far as the
software sets hard coded default values that are wrong in many cases. A more
elegant solution would be for these default values to be preferences; and for
the software to ask the user to enter them on the first interaction.

> Before recently i had to insert value for focal length multiplier
> manually. Now hugin simply assumes it is 1. It took me a while to find
> this.
>
> in my eyes this is a bug, a regression.

+1. I am not sure yet how it happened, why, and how to fix it, but it starts
itching me.

What camera are you using? EXIF support is not overall the same, although if
EXIF is not available, the software should ask, not randomly guess.

But first, I stand corrected: I experienced two errors combined. One was bad
EXIF data in my input images (my bad). The regression compounded it.

Because I am a discerning enough panographer (although I qualify as "casual"
nowadays - have not had much time for pano shooting/stitching in more than a
year) it was easy for me to work around this annoyance. But it should not
happen in the first place.

This regression is similar to what I perceived as a regression a few years ago
with the setting of default lens type. Over time I learned to live with the
quirk, but I admit that I prefer an empty field to be filled by the user than
a wrongly pre-filled field.

It is a design problem. Currently Hugin takes input for granted, especially
default input. It should not. We need less assumptions and more / smarter
ways to validate guesses.

For this, the process needs to be broken down into more steps than just detect
control points across the board, optimize across the board, stitch.

Some sort of control point detection should be run before even considering
type of lens, focal distance, crop factor, to validate such inputs / defaults.

At the detection level detect first for time-adjacent pictures rather than
blindly across the board. This will yield more information to make better
estimates:
- if there are groups of disconnected pictures, it is likely to be a multi-row
project with "carriage return" between rows (but it could also be multiple set
of unrelated panoramas)
- if the sequence is all connected, it is likely to be either a single-row
project or a "snake pattern" multi-row
- of course there is still the possibility of garbage-in (read: shooting all
over the place with a logic that is not understandable to Hugin at this point,
such as following a bird flying around the sphere. Garbage is not meant in a
negative way in this context).

This kind of provisional detection can enrich/improve the guesses made based
on other information available such as number of pictures loaded, time stamps
(preferably from EXIF, fall-back from the filesystem), file names (alphabetic
sorting), etc. - as well as blind defaults.

Same thing with the optimizer: an "auto" mode should not just make a single
optimization run, but rather a multi-staged approach: first optimize for
positions only. Then check if the images at one end overlap images at the
other end. If they do, validate by detecting control points between the
border-left and border-right images. If there are no CP detected, this is
most likely a partial panorama with wrong field of view / crop factor. If
they do overlap, add these newly detected CPs for the next optimization run.
And so on.

[hugin-ptx] Re: Looking for help fixing distortion in panoramic photos

2010-08-17 Thread Bart van Andel
Read the opening post and agree with me that the problem you describe
is of a rather different nature. Your problem is about finding the
right settings for the tri-plane projection, which I wouldn't call a
distortion problem. Both problems ask for a completely different
solution. It's probably a matter of definition, but to me, it looks
like apples and pears: both are fruits and they look a bit alike, but
they're not quite the same.

Anyway it would help if you could provide a screenshot of what your
problem looks like (best in a new thread). For the Hugin community, a
picture often says more than a thousand words ;-)

[hugin-ptx] Re: Looking for help fixing distortion in panoramic photos

2010-08-17 Thread Joergen Geerds
I have started to play with the triplane projection.
Is there a way in hugin to modify the "corners" of the projection?
right now it looks like it's projecting 90+ deg / 90 deg / 90+ deg.
would it even make sense to adjust the "break points"?

[hugin-ptx] Help me on GPU benchmark

2010-08-17 Thread Caio Cesar Moreira
Hi guys,

I'm creating a software for my mastership program in image processing
and I need to perform a sizing of a machine that my software will be
running in. My software needs GPU processing so I have to test couple
of GPUs before buying a new card.

I developed a test software that gathers GPU information of your
hardware and saves that (including performance) in a log file.

I'm here to ask you a favor, could you please run the software on your
system so I can check which video card works in my project so I can
aim for the right product? This would help me a lot.

The link for the software is the following:
http://depositfiles.com/files/7cdekmuol

A virus scan report run on it can be found in here:
http://www.virustotal.com/file-scan/report.html?id=c34e765ec6e564676c49e0560dc5dc750902873a66bd8ac7cb0b2101e6e3df5a-1282065375

There is no secret to execute it, just double click and the text will
become green, when all texts are green, it is done. You can check the
log file generated and post it here in the forum or send me by e-mail
(profissio...@gmail.com)

Thank you all in advance,

Best regards,

[hugin-ptx] can't autolevel pano from jpegs. raws work! :-(

2010-08-17 Thread Jeffrey Martin | 360Cities.net
Hi I'm having a "stupid" problem.

Stitching a pano from raw files shot from a tripod, the "auto-level" works
great.

but using jpegs shot from a tripod, the "auto-level" doesn't work. the pano
comes out sideways.

i'm tearing my hair out, because this seems like a strange problem. i'm
using hugin 2009.4 / mac.

here are the jpegs / hugin project file:

www.vrlog.net/temp/not-level.zip

if anyone can provide some insight, i'd be really happy :)

thanks,
Jeffrey

Hello Vladimir,
I took a quick glance at images you send here. Using align image stack
to create hdr file I've got something not looking like HDR with some
artifacts around edges but no boxes are present. It seems like the
exposures were not determined correctly and only the brighter image
was used.

result:
http://blender6xx.ic.cz/pub/strange_boxes_bug/align_image_stack.hdr

Then I used align_image_stack to create the .pto file and stitched the
file in hugin. The file shows the same behavior as the previous, only
only the brighter part is used to create the image. It can be
confirmed by looking at EV value in the Camera and Lens in Hugin. Both
images gets the same EV value even though it should be different. The
interesting thing is that Luminance can't open this file correctly but
the viewer from pfstools can. The artifacts are not so visible, but it
may be due to the different viewer used.

result:
http://blender6xx.ic.cz/pub/strange_boxes_bug/align_image_stack.pto
http://blender6xx.ic.cz/pub/strange_boxes_bug/align_image_stack_pto.exr

Then I used pto file from the last step, added a new lens and used
"Load EXIF" which set the proper EV values. This one is finally
correct, ie there ire details in both sky and the building. Again it
can't be opened in Luminance but the pfstools can handle it.

result:
http://blender6xx.ic.cz/pub/strange_boxes_bug/align_image_stack_hugin_edited.pto
http://blender6xx.ic.cz/pub/strange_boxes_bug/align_image_stack_hugin_edited.exr

Last I tried to create the panorama completely in hugin. The
optimization placed the on the edge of screen so I moved it manually
to the center. Then I did the Stitch. This one becomes really
interesting. It seems like the images suffers from heavy barrel
distortion, but b is zero. I'll investigate this one more.

result:

I see this problem differently.

Before recently i had to insert value for focal length multiplier
manually. Now hugin simply assumes it is 1. It took me a while to find
this.

in my eyes this is a bug, a regression.
