Re: [hugin-ptx] [OSX] bundle for hugin-2010.2.0_rc1 released

2010-09-17 Thread AKS-Gmail-IMAP

Hi Harry, Thanks for your dedicated efforts.

I see some problems with this take. First, I am testing an Intel box
and a PPC. The Intel has 10.6.4. The PPC has 10.5.8.

- I see Pablo's matcher on the Intel but not on the PPC. I guess it
compiles only to Intel.

- On both system the Stitch now! button kicks out a Error form
"External program enblend not found in the bundle, reverting to system
path" that is behind the Hugin application window. Therefore one does
not know it is there when the application window is positioned to
cover the error message. For these tests the enblend location setting
is the default. It also appears that this error form might be in
duplicate because it takes two clicks to dismiss it and there is a
regen flash between clicks. The stitch process looks like it wants to
proceed as normal once the error messages are gone.

- On the Intel machine only, the stitch process fails when the stitch
is an overwrite. An overwrite stitch proceeds on the PPC. But in both
cases, as observed with verbose output, both enblend checking and
enfuse checking (of course) report as failed. The process stalls at
the enblend stage on the Intel. In other words the status window
remains open. On the PPC the status window closes. There is no stitch
in either case. One is left with the intermediate, ort tiff images.

- On both machines, stitching succeeds when using the batch mode.

So it looks like two problems. Enblend is not found in single shot
stitching and the error message needs to have a property set to come
forward.

Allan

And BTW, the download poll worked on the Intel (Safari 5.0.2) but as
usual did not show on the PPC (Safari 5.0.1).

[hugin-ptx] Re: How to reduce the size of the final panorama ? Fast previews ?

2010-09-17 Thread WaterWolf
Thanks for the advice

I tried reducing the input images to 800 x 600 again with imagemagick
in case the other image resizing tool I was using had caused problems
but it came up with the exact same results. Because I'm creating a 360
degree image there are lots of pictures that are mostly grass and
things like that. I can only guess that reducing the image size must
reduce the image detail enough so that panomatic can no longer find
the control points in the fine detail.

So the only solution I've found so far is to begin to generate the
image in hugin and then cancel it after nona has run. Then I run
imagemagick to shrink the output files from nona to a more managable
size. Then I run enblend manually against the shrunk files.

This is producing good results and is a lot faster but is still a bit
time consuming. 1 hour nona + 1 hour imagemagick + 30mins enblend
(once the file size of a tif goes beyond 300mb, whatever process is
working on it runs out of memory space (3gb) and starts hammering the
hard drive instead).

The final image no longer has strange artifacts in it (it looks rather
good in fact!) so I think the issue must relate to the size of images
being processed. I've been using the latest version of enblend all
along so the issue can't have been fixed yet.

When you say "output size" and "pixel width and height" are you
referring to the "Panorama Canvas Size" in the sticher tab? How do
these fields work? I tried changing them but whenever I pressed the
Create Panorama button they seemed to be reset to some automatically
calculated values.

Thanks, David.

Not sure if this is the place where I should report a bug, but the
"Stitch Now" button does not work on rc1 for me (buts works on Harry's
previous bundle, which I assume is beta2).

Macbook Pro Duo Core 2 2.53 Ghz 6 ram Snow Leopard (10.6.3).

Installed via Harry's lastest bundle (the zip file).

tiffsplit is actually a fast and convenient way to split a multi-image
tiff file into several single-image ones. I use it on the files my
canon raw converter produces (they are with a preview image and I
haven't found a way to avoid that). But just tiffsplit is not enough,
since tiffsplit also removes all exif information from the file, and I
make EXIF-TIFFs to use the information in hugin and elsewhere. So I've
written a little shell script to deal with the issue. It's a bash
script (the bourne-again shell) and I run it on Windows under msys,
the environment that goes along with minGw. I am sure that a
corresponding Windows script could easily be written, but I have a
strong dislike of Windows scripting (maybe from the old MSDOS days,
when you had to spend days to get something done in a batch file that
you could get done with a unix one-liner) - being pragmatic, though, I
still use Windows, just with a little help from the 'other side'. But
I shan't waffle on, here's the (trivial) script (that certainly could
be improved upon):

#! /bin/bash

# this little shell script keeps only the first layer
# of each tiff file it is invoked with and replaces
# the original file with it.

for picture in $*
do
echo -n 'processing' $picture ' '
tiffsplit $picture layer_ &&
exiftool -overwrite_original_in_place -TagsFromFile $picture -
exif:all layer_aaa.tif &&
mv layer_aaa.tif $picture &&
echo 'done'
done

rm -f layer_???.tif

# end of script

This lives as 'no_thumb' in my /bin directory.

The script throws stuff out of the original file and overwrites it
without warning, but mostly it does just what I want.

Of course, having to run an extra two processes per image (and all the
disk activity envolved) costs time and one does indeed wish there was
a way to tell TIFF-consuming programs straight away that one only
cares for one of the several images in the input only, but if one
really only does care for just the one image, one might as well throw
the other(s) out straight away - and then enjoy the gimp opening
without the dialog that asks which of the images one wants to load, as
well as having the droplets and enfuse function as one often intends.
I also feel that the preview image should be an option in the TIFF-
generating software, and I also feel that the choice to have enfuse do
what it does is legitimate, and that the workaround needed until
someone maybe makes the effort to include additional syntax into
enfuse is not really a great bother.
With regards
KFJ

If your fisheye is straight up, the parts of the fisheye shot which
could match the 8 images around is quite distorted. The control point
generator (CPG) might not be able to find the matches. The matching
becomes even more difficult if the images around are made with a
different lens. You can sometimes still succeed by increasing the
image size the CPG is made to look at, by adding a --maxdim argument
to the command line for the CPG (go to settings - control point
generators; autopano-sift-c will tell you what parameters it accepts
if you call it without any) and try a number larger than your image's
largest dimension.
In my experience though, autopano-sift-c isn't necessarily the best
CPG to use to match images with very dissimilar optical properties. As
a second measure, try using alternative CPGs. I find that autopano
often finds control points where the others don't. I often start out
with panomatic, since that is quite fast, and then use autopano and/or
autopano-sift-c if I dont have a convincing result from panomatic
alone.
Also, if you can repeat the take, try tilting the fisheye shot so it
has parts matching your images around which aren't so distorted to
help the CPGs. It's usually also a good idea to take the shot so that
the part of the ground that (by tilting it) is less distorted,
contains a part of the scene which is likely to succeed with the CPGs,
so avoid very dark, very bright, low contrast and repetitive patterns.
Finally, if all else fails, the control point editor allows you to
quite easily create control points manually. You don't need that many
to get a decent result, I'd say a good half dozen should be enough.
Don't forget to tell hugin the zenith shot is fisheye (in case it
hasn't found that from the EXIF data).

2010-09-17 Thread Carl von Einem

Hi Harry,

the zip works as expected, thanks.

I suspect the corrupted dmg images are due to a fresh server
installation that treats .dmg as ascii instead of binary, it's just no
common extension in non Apple environments. I'll forward that to Thomas
so he can have a look at it.

Ah, looking at the About dialog I just see that the 2010 GSoC isn't yet
mentioned in the Sponsors tab...

Harry, if another uploaded dmg gets corrupted on the server could
you try to also zip the dmg before uploading? Does that make any
difference?
Or does it have to do with the sftp connection or your sftp application?

Masquage

Hugin uses multiresolution seam blending to join photos invisibly by
smoothing colours and brightness. Controlling the location of this seam is now
much easier with the new Mask tab, which instead of requiring you to
place the seam itself, lets you just indicate the areas of photos that you do
and don't want to be part of the finished panorama - The seam itself then gets
placed intelligently using the remaining overlapping areas.

identifiés automatiquement et Hugin utilisera les out

[hugin-ptx] [OSX] bundle for hugin-2010.2.0_rc1 released

2010-09-17 Thread Harry van der Wolf
Hi all,

I built an i386/x86_64/ppc bundle.
Please test.

Tiger users should use the Tiger versions of enblend/enfuse as can be found
in the "enblend-enfuse-4.0" folder in the dmg.
(Snow)Leopard users can stick to the builtin enblend/enfuse version. These
builtin (Snow)Leopard versions are 32/64bit openMP builds.
New users or users switching from 2009.2 and below: If you want to use
autopano-sift-c and/or panomatic you should download and install the correct
versions (see (1)). The bundle comes pre-configured for autopano-sift-c and
panomatic but without the actual programs due to patent/license
restrictions.

See Bruno's mail below for the changelog to the previous 2010.0.0 version.

As always: Information and binaries via my website
.
(The binaries themselves are served from hugin.panotools.org who kindly
provide the disk space and bandwidth).

* Optimize tab presets now properly select anchor yaw and pitch for
optimisation in XYZ mosaic Translation options.

* Fix an overflow bug in celeste

* Fix crash when trying to draw control points on the fast preview.

* Fixes issue that HFOV is not shown if crop factor could not calculated
from
EXIF.

* Minor bugfix, manual/help, authors, documentation updates.

libpano13-2.9.17 is required, this was released on 10 September 2010.
