[hugin-ptx] THANK YOU

2010-11-28 Thread Yuval Levy
To all those who built binaries from the released source tarball, and those
who are still building them: a big THANK YOU!

You achieved a first: this is the first release of Hugin ever that got binary
support for so many platforms in such a short time - less than 48 hours.

I hope ordinary users will join into this thank you message.

In any case, I am very proud of you.

In the meantime, development goes on, a few bugs have been fixed, translations
updated, the bug tracker is being intensively worked through and we'll gear up
for another release run next weekend. Can we do better?

On my end, I definitely can. This time around I only provided binaries for
Ubuntu Lucid. I'll try to do two versions of Ubuntu next time.

We still have the following plan:
- beta2 dec 3
- rc1 dec 17
- rc2 dec 21
- final dec 25

My wish is for the build process for 2010.4.0 final to be as fast as it was for
2010.4.0beta1, and I look forward to share with you all the way through the
release candidates until 2010.4.0 final and beyond.

have a good week
Yuv

got my alphabet wrong, it's actually karmic (9.10), jaunty is no longer
supported.

currently supported 'buntu versions with end of support dates (desktop
versions):
* natty (not yet released)
* maverick (10.10) until 2012.04
* lucid (10.04LTS) until 2013.04
* karmic (9.10) until 2011.04
* hardy (8.04LTS) until 2011.04

bumped into a few problems when trying to build Hugin 2010.4.0beta1 from
debian experimental using a chrooted environment.

Start the chrooted environment (optional ):

dchroot -c my_karmic -d

Setup the tools (one off)

sudo echo 'deb-src ftp://ftp.at.debian.org/debian ../project/experimental
main' > debian-experimental.list
sudo mv debian-experimental.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 55BE302B
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 8B8D7663
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install devscripts

Get dependencies and sources:

sudo apt-get build-dep hugin=2010.4.0+dfsg~beta1-1
apt-get source hugin=2010.4.0+dfsg~beta1-1

With the chrooted karmic it stopped at the apt-get build-dep because it could
not find a recent enough libpano13-dev. I even downloaded and installed
manually [0] and [1] but the error message did not want to go away. The rest
of the steps are from what I did previously on lucid (native).

Edit package:

cd hugin-2010.4.0+dfsg~beta1-1/
nano debian/control

In debian/control edit the maintainer and uploader name / email addresses.
Then update the debian changelog:

DEBEMAIL="your name " dch --newversion
2010.4.0+dfsg~beta1-[natty|maverick|lucid|karmic|hardy]1 new upstream release

Build, test, upload

dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b -uc -us
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -uc -us -sa -S
cd ..
debsign -k *.changes
dput *.changes

anyway, calling it a day now, will do better with beta2 next weekend.

Now I am pretty sure that you were right. I built again today.

Yesterday: local failed, build-farm failed
Today: local failed, build-farm succeeded

The above error message explains the local failure. I still can't figure out
why local build with `dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b -uc -us
` fails and local build with `make package` works, but this only affects the
predictability of the process and not its outcome.

Today I've used your hugin-2010.4.0+dfsg~beta1 as basis. Thanks for updating
(from my posted files?). The description in debian/control has not been
updated. I did update it in my package.

An Ubuntu binary package of Hugin is available for Lucid (10.4) in my PPA [0].
If somebody can verify it is correct, I'll transfer it to the official Hugin
PPA.

I'll look into a Jaunty (9.10) version after dinner.

Don't worry, it has no consequences and it happens to almost everybody at some
point. Look at the merge operations in the repo.

maybe the Hugin translation guide [0] could benefit from your experience? you
could write up a "frequent pitfalls" section and explain the symptoms of not
syncing that you just experienced and how to avoid the pitfall.

hg pull

ls -l src/translations/

> a big difference considering the fact that they are only 48-60 hours apart

> couldn't find it in the .po.

the time you want to measure is between the last time
./src/translations/extract-messages.sh has been executed and committed - not
between code commits. Usually this is done once prior to the branching of a
new release, so it is between the commit that branched 2010.2 and the one that
branched 2010.4

The Milko dedication tab is not translated. I did not even consider
translation (none of the files displayed in the about dialog are translated -
maybe we should?)

src/hugin1/hugin/xrc/data/about.htm.in
src/hugin1/hugin/xrc/data/about.txt
src/hugin1/hugin/xrc/data/sponsors.htm
src/hugin1/hugin/xrc/data/dedication.htm (2010.4 only)

it would not work through the poedit system. they would have to be renamed,
eg:

src/hugin1/hugin/xrc/data/about..htm.in
src/hugin1/hugin/xrc/data/about..txt
src/hugin1/hugin/xrc/data/sponsors..htm
src/hugin1/hugin/xrc/data/dedication..htm (2010.4 only)

the app would have to be modified to load the locale-specific file.

the translators would have to translate the files directly.

> > I prefer to do the translations once with some small rework, and not
> > twice for trunk and 2010.4.
> > - Any idea with which po to start and how to merge them?

don't bother about 2010.4. The only thing different there from a translation
perspective is src/hugin1/hugin/xrc/data/dedication.htm

Work on the po file in default (trunk). Commit the changes to default (trunk).

If you absolutely want to take care of 2010.4 too, note down the revision
number associate with your commit and do

hg pull
hg up -c 2010.4
hg export --git | hg import -
hg push

a big difference considering the fact that they are only 48-60 hours apart
after 2010.4 branching, it is because of the Milka dedication tab? I
couldn't find it in the .po.

[hugin-ptx] What's the difference between the trunk and the 2010.4 translations?

2010-11-28 Thread Harry van der Wolf
Hi,

2 questions.

As I need to do some updating of the dutch translations I was was wondering
what the difference is between the 2010.4.0 .po files and the trunk .po
files.
The 2010.4 files are bigger than the trunk files.
- Why?

I prefer to do the translations once with some small rework, and not twice
for trunk and 2010.4.
- Any idea with which po to start and how to merge them?

Harry
