[hugin-ptx] Is the panosphere preview looking at the outside of the sphere?

2011-05-16 Thread kfj
Hi all!

Finally I'm using a larger monitor where the panosphere view in the
fast preview is shown large enough to make it attractive. So I loaded
a panorama and looked at the preview. The 'flat' preview shows the
image all right, but the panosphere view shows it's mirror image. If I
shift the 'flat' preview so that the intended center is 180 degrees
further along the horizon, the panosphere view comes out right.

This seems to indicate that either the panosphere view is showing the
outside of the panosphere, or that there is a sign fault somewhere. If
this behaviour is intended, I'd be curious what the rationale behind
it is. If it's not, let me know and I'll file a bug report. I noticed
this on Pre-Release 2011.1.0.2bd081769bbc, self-build on Kubuntu 11.4

[hugin-ptx] Re: hugin plugin interface - developers please liaise

2011-05-16 Thread kfj
Hi all!

I've upgraded my system to Kubuntu 11.4. When compiling hugin, apart
from a few minor glitches I noticed that the Python version detection
in CMakeLists.txt in the python_scripting branch's
hugin_script_interface directory wasn't working anymore. I figured out
that this was because the version detection was looking at the version
string, which read '2.7.1+' and choked on the plus sign. I changed the
detection to use the numeric defines for the three parts of the Python
version. I hope the version detection works like this on Windows as
well. Thanks to Kornel for helping me on the way; the finer points of
the change to the version detection code can be seen in

http://groups.google.com/group/hugin-ptx/browse_thread/thread/6306769b11f1b8ee#

While at it, I also merged the default branch into python_scripting,
to get python_scripting up to bleeding edge. This was painless and
needed only one trivial manual intervention. So doing the reverse
merge should be just as unproblematic.

The relevant patch (in this case, a bundle) is, as ever, in my bazaar
repo:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~kfj/+junk/script/view/head:/main/bundle5210

I made this bundle by issuing this command:

hg bundle -r 5210 --base 5080 --base 5209 bundle5210

If it's put into the repo at SF, kindly post a quick line here. I
haven't done much testing, but since the changes were minuscule, I'm
quite confident all is well.

Just a little reminder: there are two big unresolved issues in the
python_scripting branch

- Mac support is still missing
- parameter passing to Python plugins and/or use of GUI elements by
plugins is unresolved

This morning I noticed a mail from Yuval Levy that a patch was put in
to fix the problem. I tried it out here and indeed cpfind --fullscale
now finds lots of CPs and seems to run just fine.

This is great, because now I can try and put it to work properly with
the woa plugin and make it the default CPG there - instead of apsc,
which is the current default. Once I feel that this works well, I'll
probably add woa to the python_scripting branch rather than keeping it
at my bazaar repo.

There is a cpfind --linearmatch option to only attempt alignment between
consecutive photos. I'm not sure if this was available in 2010.4.0 or if
you need to use a 2011.0.0 snapshot.

My experience of doing this with other tools is that you only need one
blurred frame to break the sequence, there is an additional cpfind
--linearmatchlen option that you can use to match further than just one
 adjacent photo.

 CHANGES SINCE 2010.4.0

Despite some known issues (see section KNOWN ISSUES below) this release brings
many major new features worth releasing now.  Hugin's own control point
generator CPFind has been significantly improved;  the last project from the
2010 Google Summer of Code has been integrated;  many general improvements
 have been made.

 _Improved Built-in Control Points Generator_

CPFind's detection ability has been significantly improved, especially for
wide angle ( FOV 65°) images, fisheye images, and rotated images.  Anecdotal
evidence shows it to be more accurate than any other CP detector ever used
with Hugin.  A thorough, scientific comparison against other CP detectors
is welcome.  If you have well formed comparison results, please publish a link
on the Hugin mailing list athttp://groups.google.com/group/hugin-ptx/

 _Improved Fast Preview_

An Overview pane has been added to the Fast Preview window.  Users can now
interact with the panosphere like in a virtual reality viewer in real time
and visualize all areas of the panorama with little distortion, including
the zenith and nadir that are typically excessively distorted in the flat
 preview.

It is now possible to drag individual images or arbitrary groups of images
on the panosphere in the fast preview.

A new gray point picker has been added for visual white balance correction.

 _Registration of Stereo Images_

align_image_stack is commonly used for the alignment of slightly misaligned
images, e.g. for creating a High Dynamic Range image  from multiple exposures
when the camera was hand held.

It has been extended with additional functionality for the registration of
 stereo images.

 _Other Improvements_

 * Man pages are now compressed and the generation is integrated in the CMake
   process (Linux).
 * New Thoby projection modeling 10.5mm Nikkor fisheye lens.
 * Improved support for some keyboard shortcuts.
 * New Preferences: output file format (LDR only).
 * This release has the usual bugfixes and adds minor features.

 _Libraries and Build_

 * CMake 2.8 or newer is now required
 * Support has been added for gcc-4.6
