[hugin-ptx] Re: Enfuse v4.2 question

2016-06-07 Thread twalp
I'm replying again to post the results of "reducing the number of pyramid
levels" -- in case a future reader is curious. It should be noted that my
using Enfuse options like this are akin to me randomly flipping switches in
a jet cockpit, but there definitely is a visible pattern.

Baseline Enfuse using --saturation-weight=0 --exposure-cutoff=0%%:95%%
--contrast-weight=0

add --level=-1

change value to --level=-2

I assume there are situations where reducing the number of pyramid levels
helps an image but not in this case. The gray cast that replaces highlights
is downright nasty (though less obvious here than when viewed on my
computer).

Thank you for the insights!

Re: [hugin-ptx] Hugin 2016.2 beta 1 released

2016-06-07 Thread Donald Johnston
Now … what about GPU support? I’m running a MacBook Pro with a "Nvidia GeForce
GT 650M”.

I noticed under the Energy tab of the Activity Monitor that for Hugin the
“Requires High Perf GPU” is Yes.

Is the GPU only used when actually displaying an image or does it have special
powers to help with graphics calculations as would help in enblend and enfuse?

[hugin-ptx] Few control points on HDR images with CPFind

2016-06-07 Thread Torsten Stremlau
I recently started using Hugin to create 360° panoramas of HDR images.
The images I am trying to stitch together are in OpenEXR format.

I noticed that cpfind hardly finds any control points on these HDR images.
If I convert the images to LDR first, then cpfind actually finds quite a
few control points.

I poked around in cpfind and found out that this is probably because the
HDR images are first mapped
to [0,255] before any features are detected. As this is done using a linear
mapping the images end up being
mostly black with only the brightest parts in the image visible. (Usually
the sun...)

When I switched the mapping in cpfind to logarithmic in the source code,
the results became much better and
more control points were found.

Is this a known issue, or am I doing something wrong?

I am using hugin on ubuntu 16.04 64bit.
I built hugin myself from hg
revision:674a88cfacb6468ac185c8e12392ba9c206a7113

2016-06-07 Thread dabidaoud
Hello!
I updated and it appears the error disappeared. I believe it was an
installation error with the version I had on my computer. Thank you for
prompting me to reinstall, I suppose if anyone else has a similar issue in
the future either re-installing or updating does the trick!
Thank you,
David
P.S. Within the Hugin program a cylindrical lens provides me with a
rectangular preview resembling the original save file while the rectilinear
lens gives a preview with rounded edges? Is this normal, what is the reason
the edges are rounded in the rectilinear option?

Did you really shot with a cylindrical lens, or was it a rectilinear lens?
This is at least very unusual.

The skipping message has probably nothing to do with the error. Could you
post the pto file (after generating cpontrol points, the pto file is

[hugin-ptx] Anyone else seeing this when using Hugin?

2016-06-07 Thread dabidaoud
Hello,
I have been using Hugin for a short time and have found it to be a
wonderful tool when stitching together images for panoramas. Recently, I
have tried stitching a 360 degree image via Hugin consisting of 32
individual photographs. When I attempt to align it however, I run into an
issue and the log displays this message:

Skipping automatic leveling because of existing vertical control points.

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual
way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

This has prevented me from aligning the image well and from getting a
finally stitched project. Has anybody else seen a similar error and has any
ways to bypass it or to fix it?
Thanks,
David

[hugin-ptx] Is anyone else seeing this in Hugin?

2016-06-07 Thread dabidaoud
Hello all!
I have recently found Hugin and have started using it to create large
panoramic shots and mostly 360x180 images, however I seem to be unable to
get the alignment to work on one of my recent 360x180 project of 32 images.
I set up control points to ensure all the images are connected, then run
alignment but receive this message in the reports:

Skipping automatic leveling because of existing vertical control points.

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual
way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

After this the alignment box closes and nothing is aligned. Has anyone else
seen this error before and have a way to go around it or to fix it?
Thanks,
David

I mistook what you meant by "viewer". :/

Panini is a viewer in the sense that it uses OpenGL to render an image with
a known x*y degrees of view and project it however you want [within its
projection style limits, at least]. This doesn't help one post a navigable
image in a web page, but it does give you a fast, self-contained,
locally-run viewer.

To have a full 360-degree, manipulatable view you don't need to do anything
beyond handing it a high-res equirectangular image [or any image with FOV
tags, for partial projections]. You can mess with the projection type,
viewing angle, rotation, etc. at will.

It more or less acts as a lens simulator, and lets you save the image as a
jpeg if you like what you see. I lack the skill to get TIFF output
working, but the jpegs it puts out are still excellent.

Usage: drop an image with FOV tags on it [the output of Hugin will have
these]. Mess with the view. Click save if you like it.
