I'm not so sure about the electric blue, green, and purple
combinations, but otherwise it looks nice.

[IAEP] [SoaS-2] A bunch of new Snapshots. Please test!

2009-03-21 Thread Sebastian Dziallas
Hi folks,

it has been calm for almost a week, but now there are news regarding
Sugar on a Stick! First of all, new snapshots have been made available.

You can now grab the .iso image from here:

http://download.sugarlabs.org/soas/snapshots/2/Soas2-200903211320.iso

And the virtual appliance from here:

http://download.sugarlabs.org/soas/appliances/soas2-20090321.tar.gz

So. What has changed? And why am I so excited about this release?

* The underlying kickstart file structure has changed completely. We've
merged the files for SoaS and OLPC's Fedora-XO effort, which means that
both sides won't need anymore to commit the same patch three times.

* We're now including quite a lot of activities from a.sl.o. Of course,
those need testing! *hint* :)

* As you may have noticed above, the virtual appliance images get now
created together with the live media image. No need to kick them off
manually.

* General package updates have taken place!

Well, most of these changes concern probably the underlying structure
and won't be necessarily evident to the average user, but I still quite
an improvement here.

Please also watch your inbox for upcoming news regarding the SoaS roadmap!

Thanks and happy hacking! :)

BTW...dumb question coming...what does a.sl.o mean? I googled it and all I got
was SugarLabs and something for adult dyslectics, ar yoo a slo red.er?

It's an acronym for activities.sugarlabs.org. Although I gotta say,
the other result you found made me LOL.

Hi Caryl,

a.sl.o is short for activities.sugarlabs.org. Its where you can get new
activities for sugar.

Its a good idea to ask kids what colors they like, but we're limited to
the color palette attached. (I tried to find the link on the wiki, but I
have no idea where it is.)

I agree,

ASLO is easier to type too.

Many consider CPAN as the 'killer app' for PERL.
