how do you get it into Write and the Sugar interface though?  how are you
going to get the keyboard input working?  Kanji is supported by many
keyboards and fonts, but I've never seen an XO type those characters

re Cherokee language: I had the opportunity to work with Cherokee Nation on
a technology localization project five years ago when I was at Esri

The Cherokee Nation has a specially organized team involved in translating
tech.
Your primary issue would be getting a Cherokee font (including recent
Unicode addition of lower-case letters) to work on the laptop.
Cherokee schools also have a good relationship with Apple, so they've
localized the Mac and iOS for school use already.  If you had a compelling
reason for Sugar in their schools, you'd want to explain it to their
localization group and see what they think.

They don't have a lot of technical details in the post, but reading between
the lines, it sounds like Google and Scratch are settling on Google Blockly
library?  This is the same one used by Code.org in their examples

That's great news. Is this specifically for localizing Sugar OS and the
core activities, or can it be applied more generally to Haitian Creole
language resources for Sugar / Sugarizer ?

In 2013, I was asked to participate in a Haitian Creole translation program
with SugarLabs, TripAdvisor, and EducaVision. Predictably, there was a
trivial software issue and I never saw this work completed.

I did release a Sugar activity which is on "HaitiOS" laptops today, and a
static HTML+JS app which you can access here

I don't see Haiti mentioned in your TripAdvisor email.  I have friends
still working with Sugar in Haiti, so I'm curious, is money still allocated

Percentage wise sure, but I don't think it's that much of a dollar
difference when it's compared to other devices and everything else a school
deployment needs. I'm reminded of a blogger's calculation a few years back,
that the NY Times could just send every subscriber a free iPad and save
millions. It doesn't make sense until you think of the complex logistics
which are already in place.

The tablet will return to the cheap price from time to time, and get
cheaper in the long run as it is mass produced.

For a World Bank App for education, you could start with the MapStats
activity (uses open SVG and JavaScript maps)

I abandoned it awhile ago, but it's a working Sugar activity for
statistics.  Adding a click/hover event would let you display precise
values for each country.
