[iagi-net-l] IAGI Luncheon Talk (Limited seat)
Dear Explorationist: IAGI will be conduct Luncheon Talk, please register now : Note : Presentation in English -- Date: Wednesday, March 24, 2004 Time: 11.30 am -01.30 pm Venue: Sasono Mulyo II, Lobby Level, Le Meridien Hotel, Jl. Jend. Sudirman Kav. 18-20 Jakarta 10220 PERTAMINA EXPLORATION DISCOVERIES 2003 Amril Adnan Vice President New Ventures PT PERTAMINA (PERSERO) Abstract During 2003 PERTAMINA drilled 19 exploration wells in Java and Sumatra wherein 6 wells yields most significant discoveries and 7 wells found hydrocarbon in lesser level of success. Those important discoveries located in Randu Blatung of East Java, Pondok Tengah and Karang Baru of West Java, Tika and Suban Barat of South Sumatra. The significances of those discoveries may not only determine in term of its value, but also in term of concepts and impact to continuing exploration. Randublatung-1/A drilled as a twin for previous blew-up Randublatung-1. The twin well confirmed a minimum of 150 m gas column in Kujung limestone reservoir. GWC have not found down to TD in 3112 mMD. The discovered reservoir characteristics match with model of NE-SW Banyuurip-Randublatung karstified vugular porosity trend, plus new learning to EW intensive fracture systems that significantly improve reservoir quality of Randublatung location. Additional gas reserve plays a role to abiding gas business in Java. Pondok Tengah and Karang Baru discoveries are the newest points and also the best with 205 m netpay in Pondok Tengah in the learning sequence of rift related play, which cover Baturaja and TalangAkar reservoirs in West Java. The learning curve has been assembled from informations gained from Tambun, Wanajaya, Tambun Kelapa, Melandong, and presently Pondok Tengah and Karang Baru exploratory wells, located at Ciputat and Cipunegara graben systems. Models of bounding-fault margin, graben-deep, and flexure margin may guide next exploration in other less explored areas, especially in northern part West Java. For area close to central part of West Java, the Sukamulya (as part of Tunggul Maung Structure) gas discovery may not so significant in reserves found, but the information is valuable to future oil hunting in area close to present day Bogor-trough gas kitchen. Small discovery of oil in unconformity trap (in Tunggul Maung-2) suggesting a model for trapping mechanism in earliest oil migration into Mio-Pliocene structural-stratigraphic trap, related to bulge systems in thrust front. Tika discovery of South Sumatra is one of continuing success stories for the "go deeper" paradigm. Though play of Baturaja and Talangakar objective area those of the oldest play in Sumatra, it still creates a chain of success in area which is overlooks, or left behind unexplored by imprecise assumptions. Also the Suban Barat discovery in South Sumatra is a chain of other success story, wherein related to Baturaja, Talangakar, and basement as objectives. Concerning basement, since Suban Barat is structurally deeper -down flankly of nearby proven field of Suban, Suban Barat compel more question for "Do we have water contact in basement reservoir?" Concerning Baturaja, Suban Barat has found its thickness of 281 m; the thickest ever penetrated around. The presentation will share main results and knowledge gained from those PERTAMINA's Best of Five Discoveries in 2003. About the speaker Amril Adnan is the Vice President New Ventures of PERTAMINA Upstream. In this position he is responsible for PERTAMINA exploration activities in Indonesia -from Sumatra thru Papua, and overseas -i.e. Malaysia, Vietnam and Iraq. His 25 years of experience covered almost all regions of Indonesia's exploration objectives; started as Exploration Geologist in Pangkalan Brandan for Sumatra exploration; Chief Geologist in Cirebon for Java exploration; Head Section of Regional Evaluation in PERTAMINA Jakarta Office; Exploration Manager of Eastern Indonesia Region, covering Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Papua; and then back to Sumatra as Exploration Manager of this region. In late 90's he intensify his managerial charge as General Manager for JOB Pertamina-YPF Jambi-Merang Block, before come to present position as Vice President New Ventures. Amril Adnan contributes to our scientific community by serving IAGI in many events and postings along with publishing many papers concerning geology and exploration subjects. He is currently Chairman of IAGI Jakarta Chapter. [iagi-net-l] IAGI Luncheon Talk (Register Now)
Dear Explorasionists, Having successfully conducted the Evening Talk, Indonesia Association of Geologists will soon hold a Luncheon Talk. IAGI Luncheon Talk Theme : Low Energy Depositional Systems of SE Asia: Implications for Reservoir CharacterizationDate: Date : Tuesday, 3 February 2004 Time : 11.30 am - 01.30 pm Venue: Hotel Sahid Jaya, Puri Putri Room 2nd floor, Jl. Jenderal Sudirman, Jakarta Speaker : Joseph J Lambiase About the Speaker Dr. Joseph J. Lambiase, graduated from Brow University and received his Ph.D. in clastic sedimentology from McMaster University. After 3 years on the staff of Virginia Polytechnic Institue and State University, he spent 13 years as an exploration geologist with Marathon Oil Co. and Amareda Hess Ltd. Since 193 he has held the Brunei Shell Professorship, and the post of Head, in the Department of Petroleum Geoscience at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam. He has authored numerous papers on shallow marine depositional system and on stratigraphic development in rift basins. Abstarct Low Energy Depositional Systems of SE Asia: Implications for Reservoir Characterization (Joseph J Lambiase) Department of Petroleum Geoscience, Universiti Brunei Darussalam Many of the reservoir sandstones of SE Asia were deposited in the low energy shallow marine environments that develop in semi-enclosed seas with small tidal ranges. Generally, these environments are described as "microtidal" and are expected to follow standard models for microtidal coastlines with respect to sand body geometry, facies distribution and sedimentary structures. However, ongoing research indicates that the Miocene outcrops and modern low energy systems of northern Borneo exhibit a significant departure from the established sedimentologic and stratigraphic models with respect to facies distribution, sand body geometry, stratigraphic succession, sedimentary structures and permeability distribution on both deltaic and non-deltaic coastlines. Furthermore, the modern systems demonstrate that subtle variations in the relative influence of the wave and tidal regimes (plus the fluvial regime on deltaic coasts) generate strikingly different sets of coastline morphologies and facies distributions. These various morphologies and facies distributions are capable of depositing the range of stratigraphic successions seen in outcrop, although none of them duplicate the standard microtidal coastline model. The variety and complexity of the modern systems and low energy outcrop successions, many of which are direct analogues for producing reservoirs, indicates that the standard sedimentologic and stratigraphic models are far too simplistic to accurately predict subsurface reservoir properties in most cases. (For example, in some very low energy environments it is even difficult to distinguish wave-dominated facies from tide-dominated facies based on a standard interpretation of sedimentary structures.) Indeed, preliminary analysis of a producing field with connectivity problems suggests that most of the problems result from inaccurate predictions of sand body geometry because the predictions were based on a standard facies model. The need for new models is readily apparent; consequently, the outcrop and modern examples are being studied to derive a set of sedimentologic and stratigraphic models designed to distinguish among the various types of low energy depositional system based on the facies succession, sedimentary structures and faunal assemblages that can be interpreted from standard borehole data. The anticipated result is a significant improvement in the prediction of sand body geometry, connectivity and heterogeneity. Dear Explorasionist, IAGI Luncheon Talk will be held on : Date: Tuesday, 7 October 2003 Time: 11.30-13.30 Venue: Andrawina-1 Room, Sahid Jaya Hotel, Jl. Jend. Sudirman No. 86 Jakarta 10220 Speaker Andang Bachtiar About the speaker Andang Bachtiar is presently the President of IAGI (Indonesian Association of Geologists), the position of which he serves from year 2000 until 2005. He used to be an explorationist with VICO Indonesia for 17 years, before decided to be independent geology consultant since year 2000. Theme: Kutai Basin Potpourri: Fact, Opinion and Controversies Abstract Kutai Basin has a unique character among the other so-called back-arc basins in Western Indonesia, especially due to its distinctive tectono-stratigraphic evolution and its very own Mahakam Delta. Despite common understanding about the basin and the delta, many subjects still being debated. This paper describes several loose facts, opinions, and some controversies related mostly to tectonic, stratigraphy, and sedimentology of the basin. They are based on contrasting published arguments on different concepts and facts, direct field observation, as well as on unpublished formal and informal discussions during several seminars, workshops, and field trips. On the tectonic subject, the aulacogen concept of the Kutai Basin formation is contrasted with the ordinary back-arc extension concept related to arc-trench system dynamics. The concept might be fit into the overall basin tectonic evolution as long as the exact timing of the aulacogen formation can be resolved. Field observation on chert pebbles in Middle Miocene conglomeratic sandstone has been used to verify the Lower-Middle Miocene tectonic event in the basin. Some loose facts on the occurrence of radiolaria in Kutai deltaic sediments may be tightened up with some more detailed analyses and synthesis to come up with possible new understanding of Miocene stratigraphy and sedimentology. The co-existence of several paleo-deltas along with paleo-Mahakam Delta has been explored and visualized to highlight the urgency of precautionary action in applying the Mahakam Delta model to any subsurface delta in the area. Other subjects to be touched upon in the potpourri includes: quartenary volcanism, clinkers vs real volcanic rocks, mahakam lowstand delta, fan-delta model in southern kutai, lithostratigraphy nomenclature for deltaic sediments, clastic-carbonate interaction in deltaic settings, lack of commercial discovery in miocene carbonate reservoirs, and west-flank & east-flank play concepts. > Apakah memang begitu? In order to help the government get ideas for the development of a regulation, Kelian has formed a group comprising the government, NGOs, customary institutions, educational institutions and Rio Tinto it self. Technically, the majority of mineral existing in a gold mine is FeS2, which produces acid rock drainage if oxidized and dissolved in water. It is acid rock drainage and the characteristics of rocks that will be handled so that it is not decomposed and becomes neutral when entering the river. For this purpose, Kelian covers waste material by means of wet covering and dry covering techniques. In addition, wetlands are also constructed on the riverbank area as additional control, which is managed naturally and passively.
