There is a modify command for ANTMAIN which handles cache for DFDSS

Search with keywoard CC in the sms booksheleves.

Hi ,

To get rid of CA ALLOCATE, just do a proper SMS implementation using the

Re: IRA400E

2010-10-28 Thread Paolo Cacciari
Sharon,

in my opinion, this is a too much buffer usage symtom for your XRC
complex.

The total amount of fixed buffers for your four SDM sessions is very close
(or maybe exceeds) the amount of REAL memory assigned to SDM LPAR.

This problem maybe originated by many sources:

- spike on writes on your primary dasd subsystems;
- performance problem on your journal dasd subsystem;
- performance problem on your secondary dasd subsystem;
- too much fixed buffers for your LPAR real storage amount.

If you have XRC/PM active, you can see what happened looking at history
data.

Anyway, you can get a regular look to your SDM environment, using XRC
commands
to monitor delays.

Hope this helps.

August Carideo asks:
Any suggestions from the list for replacements of the below listed
products
would be appreciated
am assuming SYNC sort can be replace with IBM DFSORT, or CASORT but trying

CA Products
ACF2

z/OS Security Server (RACF) - IBM Program Number 5694-A01

You may also wish to add one or a couple of the Tivoli zSecure products,
notably zSecure Admin and/or zSecure Visual, so the security administrators
are even happier and have less to learn.

CA1

z/OS DFSMSrmm - 5694-A01

CopyCat

Tivoli Tape Optimizer for z/OS - 5698-B26

TPX

IBM Session Manager for z/OS (5697-N61). IBM has some other session
managers as alternatives, but look at ISM first.

NetMaster

Most probably Tivoli NetView for z/OS (5697-ENV) and/or Tivoli OMEGAMON XE
for Mainframe Networks (5698-A35).

Intertest

Debug Tool for z/OS - 5655-W45

Detector for DB2

Most probably DB2 Query Monitor for z/OS (5697-I03), but you may also like
one or a couple of the IBM Optim tools, such as Optim Query Tuner for z/OS
and/or Optim Query Workload Tuner for z/OS.

Plan Analyzer

DB2 Path Checker for z/OS (5697-Q01) and/or DB2 SQL Performance Analyzer
for z/OS (5697-I04). You might as well also get the IBM DB2 Accessories
Suite for z/OS, available at no additional charge to all licensed DB2 for
z/OS customers.

Allocate

Tivoli Advanced Allocation Management for z/OS - 5697-P35

Vantage

It depends on which pieces of Vantage you have, but you would be looking at
one or more of the following products, in some combination:

Tivoli Advanced Reporting for DFSMShsm - 5698-B14
Tivoli Advanced Audit for DFSMShsm - 5698-B12
Tivoli OMEGAMON XE for Storage on z/OS - 5698-A37

SymDump

Fault Analyzer for z/OS - 5655-W46

XCOM

WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition for z/OS (5655-U80) or IBM Sterling
Connect:Direct for z/OS.

RC/Update Extract

For RC/Update probably DB2 Table Editor for z/OS (5697-G65) but you may
also want DB2 Administration Tool (5697-L90) if you don't have it already.
IBM Optim Test Data Management for IMS/VSAM/Sequential (5655-V17) may also
be applicable. For RC/Extract you would probably use IBM Optim Test Data
Management for z/OS (5655-V11). IBM File Manager (5697-Q03) may also be
useful.

ASG Products
ViewDirect

Probably Content Manager OnDemand for z/OS (5697-N93) or perhaps Tivoli
Output Manager for z/OS (5698-A26).

Synsort Products
Syncsort SRAM

z/OS DFSORT - 5694-A01

Data Direct Products
SQLINK

I think DataDirect (now Progress Software) calls this product SequeLink. I
can't figure out what SequeLink does that DB2 doesn't already do by itself
(perhaps with DB2 Connect licensing, which you'd need anyway), so do you
still need SequeLink?

Hope that helps!

NOTCAT2 is shorthand for the error message when you attempt to catalog
a non-sms managed dataset that already is cataloged (exists). If the dataset
is sms managed you get a jcl failure and the job errors out. If the dataset is
not sms managed, you get the error message and the job will continue often
using the old dataset instead of the new one just created.

StopX37 was created to detect this error condition, delete or uncatalog
the old dataset so that the job could continue. CA-Allocate (VAM) also
includes this capability.

NETSTAT STACK and Rexx exec

2010-10-28 Thread David G. Schlecht
By the book, this simple Rexx syntax should work, but I am unable to manipulate
the external stack in Rexx. The following simple program says Queued: 0 and
the NETSTAT output gets executed at TSO logout (numerous IKJ56500I COMMAND
EZZ2587I NOT FOUND messages). The program:
  Netstat STACK
  say Queued:  queued()

This is executed by: TSO EXEC 'MYLIB(ZNETSTAT)'

This seems to mean that queued() is not referencing the same stack that NETSTAT
is writing to. From what I read in the book, this should work. If it should
work and doesn't then I suspect there's a problem with the way Rexx is dealing
with TSO.

Any thoughts? Does this work for you?

CA-TPX and SMF question

2010-10-28 Thread Pommier, Rex R.
Hi list,

I can't find the answer in the CA documentation (or on Google) so I thought I'd
come here. In the TPX SMF records -specifically the interval and shutdown
records - there is a section that has SACB statistics. It has 2 fields in it,
current SACBs in use and the SACB high water mark. Can somebody tell me just
what the SACB is?

What I'm actually looking for is something that tells me the maximum number of
concurrent users of one of the applications I have defined to TPX. If I can't
get that, the max number of terminal sessions signed onto TPX concurrently.
I'm hoping the SACB field is the latter of these.

TIA.

Rex

LINKLIST and PDSEs that expand

2010-10-28 Thread Anthony Fletcher
Readers of this list will be well aware that if a PDS is allowed to take
extents,
and does, modules in the additional area may not be able to be fetched
because the DEB chain hasn't been updated.

Is the same true of a PDSE? The method of fetching a module is different from
a PDSE so this problem may not exist. I am not advocating that PDSE data
sets in the LINKLIST be allocated with the ability to take extents as a matter
of course, I am just seeking advice as to whether anyone has had this
situtation, and what happened. If it is no longer a problem, it may provide a
way out of certain problems from time to time.

No, it is not the true. An LLA refresh of course is needed to pick up any
changes. As much as people bash PDSE, this is one of the benefits. It
also only counts as 1 extent to the LNKLST max (255) - regardless of how many
extents there actually are for the data set.

Some shops I have been at have allocated an emergency LNKLST data
set as the first dsn or one of the first data sets in the lnklst. PDSE is a
good candidate for something like that.

I would go to the MacKinney site to see what they have as replacement for
your product.
They have great products/customer service at a fair price.
I am NOT affiliated with them just use thier products

Long long time ago, we had a user that wanted LISP for MVS. He wanted it to
covert DOS JCL to JCL (MVS). He worked on it for some time and never got it
to work quite to his liking. I have *NO* idea how good/bad it was but he loved
LIST. My memory is poor whether the deck he handed me was the object module of
LIST or if it was DOS JCL.I got it running and handed it back to him and said
have fun and left. He turned out to be a good friend and he tried to get me to
go out to NY on a job. I talked with the people out there and found out why I
do not like New Yorkers.

The surprise to me is Erlang. I've read up on it. I found it to be very
interesting! But also very different, being a functional language (like
LISP) instead of an imperative language like most (including COBOL). I
think Erlang would be a wonderful language for CICS. It is inherently thread
 safe.

Interesting that Erlang and Pascal are both the names of programming
languages, and of units of measure. Are there other languages with the
same naming oddity? Is there e.g. a Newton language?

By the book, this simple Rexx syntax should work, but I am unable to
manipulate the external stack in Rexx. The following simple program says
Queued: 0 and the NETSTAT output gets executed at TSO logout (numerous

  Netstat STACK
  say Queued:  queued()

This is executed by: TSO EXEC 'MYLIB(ZNETSTAT)'

This seems to mean that queued() is not referencing the same stack that
NETSTAT is writing to. From what I read in the book, this should work. If it
should work and doesn't then I suspect there's a problem with the way Rexx is
 dealing with TSO.

Any thoughts? Does this work for you?

It works fine for me, so I'm not sure what's wrong at your end. I ran
exactly this:

/* Rexx */
Arg option
Address TSO NETSTAT option STACK
Say Queued:queued()
Do Queued()
  Parse Pull line
  Say line
end
Say Done
Exit

You can invoke it without an argument, or with one like HOME or GATE,
which typically produce much less output than just plain NETSTAT.
Results were the same both at a READY prompt and under ISPF, so it's
not a matter of ISPF mucking things up as it so likes to do. And it
also worked the same without the Address TSO.

Sorry I have no better ideas...

Anthony,

Yes, that parameter makes a big difference too.

SYSTEM MEMDSENQMGMT(ENABLE) plus USEZOSV1R9RULES(NO) plus changes
in GRS, Catalog and VSAM open processing make a huge difference in DB2
start-up times on z/OS R12 for very large DB2 configurations (there is some
DB2 R9 service required to achieve some of this).

Many of these changes will benefit other environments that open large
numbers of data sets.

Re: How to know the usage frequency of my FORTRAN program ?

Interesting suggestion and  will have to think on it for a while berfore trying
it.*ASSUMING* this FORTRAN program is NOT dynaically loaded.I would go after
the (used to be type 4 SMF records and if I recall correctly at least SAS used
to off a freebie that did this. I have a stuck memory and it is trying to come
up with another way. IMO SMF is the best for batch. and you can get as long a
history that you keep SMF data for. I am not sure I would bet my job as it can
be fun if the programmer if he manages to put an alias on it(there are some
smart origrammers out there) .A long time ago over in Europe I was trying to
hide some load mods from programmers I played a trick on them putting an alias
on IEFBR14 it was fun as they couldn't figure out how to abend iefbr14
(clueless beginners). The manager of the support group got involved as someone
tried to burn me and I showed him what I did and he asked me to let them go
ahead and puzzle it out. Not one
single student could guess how to do. There were enlisted, officers and a few
civilians in the class I was giving and no one caught on. I did not give the
class a solution as I wanted to do another similar class but choose a different
problem. When I was leaving the Army one of the officers comes up to me and asks
and I told him I would write him a letter when I got state side and well out of
Army reach and explain.20 years later he looked me up and took me out to
dinner.Ed

Or another approach, if you are already filtering out and reviewing RACF
SMF records:  Create a suitable RACF PROGRAM profile for each of the
programs with UACC READ but with READ auditing enabled.  This will also
catch any invocation of the programs by other programs, which includes
TSO usage, and not just the usage by direct PGM reference on an EXEC
statement.
