I know these CDS types:

ARM
BPXMCDS
CFRM
LOGR
SFM
WLM

What's the 7th type?

Can we create a COUPLExx parmlib member with LOGR only ?

Or do we need all five COUPLE facilities ?

No, and no.

You have to create two CDS types: sysplex (aka XCF) and LOGR.
Oh, BTW, there are 7 CDS types.

I would like to see you change MPFLST, so if you suppress messages (i.e. IEC*)
that highlighted IEC messages would still display on the console.

Good comments from you all. Thanks!

The specific problem we are attempting to solve is interactions between
MONITOR message generation and MPF. With the changes we made during the
Console Restructure, MONITOR messages can be produced without a console
requesting them. You can request that the messages not be queued to a
console for display purposes (but will be queued to EMCS consoles for
automation purposes) and you can request that the messages not be logged.
All of this was done to allow customers whose automation require the
messages to receive the messages but not have the messages -- optionally --
go anywhere else. The problem is that if a customer requests that the
messages not be logged but puts an entry for the message in MPF, MPF
undoes the no logging. The simple solution is to remove the message entry
from MPF, but perhaps the customer wanted to drive an MPF exit, and then
would be unable to do so.

There is a more general question and that is how should we be handling
messages that are being generated solely for automation and being solely
consumed by automation? The MONITOR messages are but the tip of the
iceberg in this regard. We have had requests for ways of specifying on
commands that the command response message is to be returned to the
console (typically an EMCS automation console) but is not to be logged.

From the comments I've seen so far, whatever we do must be optional.

Check your LOADxx member and see if you have the wrong VOLCAT high level
qualifier in the SYSCAT parm:

SYSCAT ICFD00113CICF.DEVLPLEX.MASTER.CATALOG ICF

Columns 64-71 contain the high level qualifier for your VOLCAT.VGENERAL

All,

Our test lpar is now on z/OS 1.9 since Tuesday and all is well except

for the 'tape processing'.

We have a 3494 ATL and a B10 virtual environment. All parts of it are

fine except for the VOLCAT. When you start OAM, it cannot communicate

with the volcat. Also, when I try to list volumes within ISMF, it gets

the TCBD CALL ERROR'. When I try to create or delete an entry in the

volcat, same results.

I can run a LISTCAT fine and it displays al the tape entries. The volcat

is import connected to the new MASTER CAT. A listcat of the Master shows

it.

There has been no issue on our devl lpar with z/OS 1.9 and the tape

processing. Something is amiss here and I can't put my finger on it.

I have an open PMR with the OAM and CATALOG folks, but nothing yet.

Does anyone here have any idea why I cannot 'get to the volcat' from

batch or ISMF? All SMS routines are fine and I even re-drove them. It

was all okay under z/OS 1.7 prior to the IPL of z/OS 1.9.

Confused,

Claude

be willing to purchase any new software on a system which is going

I had talked to CA about QO72665. They wrote back:

The Apar QO72665 fix can only be applied to Gen0303. There is no fix for
EZT+ 6.4 Gen0202. You will need to upgrade your EZTPLS from Gen0202 to
Gen0303, to run error free with EZT+ for the z9 processor.

John, you may need this one depending on your level of z/OS. In my
earlier post I said I am on 1.4. The description of the CA APAR is

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: *0311* ABEND IN COMPILE AFTER OS UPGRADE

And it is for specific situations in the eztrieve code. I am planning
on migrating to z/OS 1.7 and would guess that I will need this APAR at
that time, so, thanks Lucy! :-)
