Re: EXHPDM - QUESTION

2006-10-19 Thread Cliff McNeill
Willie,

I have always equated ExHPDM streams with devices (tape drives). Check to
see that all your tape drives are online and available. You might also
see messages previous to this one (SOV06045I) that would be helpful.

Cliff McNeill

Last night one of our backup batch jobs too about 5 hours to complete as
opposed to the normal 1 hour 20 minutes. I checked the job but all looks
okay. I noticed that the following messages appears for various stream
tasks. Here is one of them.:

SOV06045I Connection ID 1183 for DD TAPE26 from JOB:GPRX0B01.GPRX0B10 is
waiting
  SOV06204I Write client JOB:GPRX0B01.GPRX0B10, DSN
PROD1.EXPL.J01S999.SOVDSSU.GPR
  uniquifier BF934A2D1F531549
  started 19OCT2006 03:30:43, ended 19OCT2006 03:45:50, elapsed 00:15:07
  total blocks 3203, I/O time 205.482, delayed 625.343 ( 68.9%)
  avg kB/sec 925, I/O utilization 22.6%

I checked the SOV06045I message which says :
"The specified connection is waiting for a stream task to become
available because the
connection has WAIT(YES) specified (or defaulted) and no stream task is
currently able to
  process the connection."

I am not sure why this would be? Can anybody tell me the reason why a
stream task is not available? Could I have missed something?

  Thanks in advance.

Re: VTOC trashed?

2006-09-22 Thread Cliff McNeill
Mike,

I agree with Alan. Try to convert the VTOC from indexed to OS, and then
back again. Here are the statements I use in ICKDSF:

Convert to OS

BUILDIX-
 DDNAME(DISK) -
 OS NOPURGE

Convert back to Indexed

BUILDIX-
 DDNAME(DISK) -
 IX

Cliff McNeill

Mike,

I'd try disabling and then rebuilding the vtoc index before you go as far
as re initing.

Sounds like there is an entry in the index that isn't on the volume.

ICKDSF BUILDIX ...

VTOC trashed?

Hi all,

ISPF Option 3.4 with just the volser, I receive message in the upper right
corner of the screen.
"Incomplete VTOC list"

PF1 shows
"Index entry not included because VTOC entry does not exist."

I assume this dasd is trashed and need to be re-inited?
The data sets are still working. I can allocate a new datasets.
One problem is that it is a system pack.

Re: Question on HPDM

2006-09-05 Thread Cliff McNeill
John,

When I enter commands, I can not see them in the ExHPDM JESMSGLG but I do
see the results of the commands. If I look in SYSLOG then I can see the
commands.

John is refering to ExHPDM, the product from StorageTek to merge
multiple concurrent datasets onto a single tape.

John, the messages seem pretty clear, you issued a CANCEL STREAM for a
stream (tape output) which is not currently active. Do you think that
stream is really active?

Re: S.O.S. - Question on EXHPDM

2006-04-06 Thread Cliff McNeill
Here is what my manual says. I would look at streams and clients per
streams with
ExHPDM commands SOV D S(ALL) and SOV D C(*) .

SOV06045I
Connection ID %s for DD %s is waiting.
Description
The specified connection is waiting for a stream task to become available
because the
connection has WAIT(YES) specified (or defaulted) and no stream task is
currently able to
process the connection.
Action
The connection waits for a stream task to become able to process the
connection.
If waiting is no longer desired then the connection can be cancelled with
the CANCEL
CONNECTION command.
Fields
? Connection identifier.
? Client DD name.
? Client job identifier.

Re: 9840 cart question

2006-03-15 Thread Cliff McNeill
Lynne,

My recollection is that the STK 9840 tape drives are not in anyway
compatible with 3480 tape cartridges.
The 9840 uses a twin spooled cartridge and has a different form factor.

9840 cart question

Hello listers,
After years of telling us that we can only use 3480 tapes, the POTAYBES
(Powers That Be - ripped off from fantasy author Anne McCaffery), are
now telling us that they are dumping the 4480 drives and now we are to
use 9480 drives. These drives can read/write 3490 carts, can they also
at least read if not write 3480 tapes? My Sysprog is recovering from
brain dump from SHARE this week and is unavailable. TIA
