Re: CA to IBM TCP conversion

2007-08-16 Thread Jeff Horenstein
Robert,
We also run both stacks without problems. All our tcp apps
can (after some effort) be switched between either.
The biggest problem for us is the hundreds of ftp jcl whose syntax
must be tweaked to go from TCPaccess to CS: ChangeMgmt, testing,
migration, remote disparate platform scripts, etc, etc resulted in the
decision to keep both stacks.
One thing to pay attention to is your OSA config. If you're running
nonQDIO (until recently a rqmt for TCPaccess), and you want to go
QDIO, that will take some migration planning.

CATINDEX

2006-06-14 Thread Jeff Horenstein
A CATINDEX was accidentally deleted from a non-SMS
volume. Surprisingly (to me) datasets cat'd in the related
catalog can still be accessed. New vsam/nvsam datasets can
be cat'd/deleted w/o apparent problems. DIAGNOSEs against
the catalog get OPEN errors; yet EXAMINE DTEST of datasets
cat'd in the catalog are clean. The VVDS is not happy,
but vsam datasets on the volume pass DTEST (but not
DIAG VVDS COMPAREDD -- "REASON: 31 - OPEN OF COMPARE
DATA SET FAILED".
  I don't see a REBUILDCATINDEX parameter anywhere. I haven't tried
EXPORT/IMPORT to a new cat, del/redef bad cat, then back to
the redef'd cat. Will that work? Is there something else I
can do?
  Any help appreciated, Jeff

snding svc dumps

2006-07-26 Thread Jeff Horenstein
Let us say you have an svc dump that a vendor needs
to debug a prolem. Given that svc dumps can contain
sensitive data, in particular likely passwords in a
dump generated by an ftp server, I was wondering how
other sites typically handle this.
