Re: Need DFHSM/SMS expert

2011-01-26 Thread Wayne Bileci
Tobias I am familiar with the LIST TTOC but what would be the normal amount
of REUSE Capacity listed for a 800mb Media2 virtual tape if you have it set at
97%. What number shows up in the column under REUSE CAPACITY? Thanks,
Wayne Bileci

Need DFHSM/SMS expert

2011-01-25 Thread Wayne Bileci
All of my DFHSM datasets to tapes (migration,backup etc) are all being
directed into an SMS defined tape library via SMS dataset filtering and the
dataclas designation is MEDIA2(800mb) virtual tapes.
I have an esoteric name defined in HSM parmlib member on USERUNITTABLE
(TAPE)
And all references to UNITTYPE and UNITNAME in my HSM parmlib member use
the name TAPE
In the system HCD/IOGen - the esoteric name TAPE are assigned to PHYSICAL
3490 tape drives(this was old and how it was being used in the beginning)
According to my reading of the HSM manuals the SMS Tape Library filtering
overrides all the HSM parmlib UNIT name designations and uses what the SMS
dataclas specifies. When I do an HSM QUERY SETSYS my TAPEUTILIZATIONS
all specify 97% except the one for TAPE which I set to 107% in the HSM
parmlib with SETSYS command.
The ouput from an HSM QUERY SETSYS shows the values below
ARC0418I TAPEUTILIZATION PERCENT=0097,
LIBRARYMIGRATION
ARC0418I TAPEUTILIZATION PERCENT=0097,
LIBRARYBACKUP
ARC0418I TAPEUTILIZATION PERCENT=0097, UNIT=3480
CAPACITYMODE=**NONE**
ARC0418I TAPEUTILIZATION PERCENT=0097, UNIT=3480X
CAPACITYMODE=**NONE**
ARC0418I TAPEUTILIZATION PERCENT=0097, UNIT=3490
CAPACITYMODE=**NONE**
ARC0418I TAPEUTILIZATION PERCENT=0097, UNIT=3590-1
CAPACITYMODE=**NONE**
ARC0418I TAPEUTILIZATION PERCENT=0107, UNIT=TAPE
CAPACITYMODE=**NONE**
I have a feeling that I am not really using the esoteric TAPE at 107% but
probably the UNIT=3490 value of 97%. I also have specified on my TAPECOPY
command ALTERNATEUNITNAME(3490). Would someone be able to confirm this
for me i.e. that the esoteric name is being ignored and I am in fact getting or
using UNIT=3490 for all my tape creations. Thank You very much for any help
or insights provided, Wayne Bileci

DFHSM Tapeutilization value question

2010-12-09 Thread Wayne Bileci
We have all of our HSM tapes going into a TS7700 VTS when I set it up for
HSM in the PARMLIB member I specified a percent value of 107 for UNIT=TAPE
I really want to keep the value consistent across all of our LPARS and just use
97. My question is - When I list off any HSM tape info using HSM commands it
always shows a tape unit value of 3490 not TAPE. Is there a way to verify if
any of my HSM tapes are actually using the 107% value. I would like to
change it change it back to 97% but I am not sure of the ramifications and/or
I am really currently using the 107% value.

My HSM PARMLIB value for -
SETSYS -
  USERUNITTABLE(TAPE)

My SMS definition for filtering is specified as follows -
FILTLIST TAPE_UNIT  INCLUDE(3490*,3590*,TAPE*,'AFF=')

The ouput from an HSM QUERY SETSYS shows the values below
ARC0418I TAPEUTILIZATION PERCENT=0097,
LIBRARYMIGRATION
ARC0418I TAPEUTILIZATION PERCENT=0097,
LIBRARYBACKUP
ARC0418I TAPEUTILIZATION PERCENT=0097, UNIT=3480
CAPACITYMODE=**NONE**
ARC0418I TAPEUTILIZATION PERCENT=0097, UNIT=3480X
CAPACITYMODE=**NONE**
ARC0418I TAPEUTILIZATION PERCENT=0097, UNIT=3490
CAPACITYMODE=**NONE**
ARC0418I TAPEUTILIZATION PERCENT=0097, UNIT=3590-1
CAPACITYMODE=**NONE**
ARC0418I TAPEUTILIZATION PERCENT=0107, UNIT=TAPE
CAPACITYMODE=**NONE**
When I use HSM LIST commands UNIT names show up as 3490 not TAPE -

How to define stand-alone 3590 tape drives in SMS?

2009-09-09 Thread Wayne Bileci
Would anyone be able to tell me the specifics of how to define the necessary
SMS constructs SG,SC,DC to define and use one or two stand alone 3590
tape drives in SMS. The 3590 needs to get allocated preferably for a scratch
request based on ACS datasetname filtering?

Thank You,
Wayne

DFHSM Native 3590 tapes to virtual 3490E's

2009-07-08 Thread Wayne Bileci
We will be migrating DFHSM 3590 native tapes from a 3494ATL/B18 Vts
environment to a new IBM TS7700. The 3590's will be recycled via HSM onto
virtual 3490E media type 2 volumes(4000MB) in the new VTS. My question is -
Is this feasible to take 3590(10GB uncomressed tapes) compressed data tapes
and move the data onto the smaller 3490E's? If my calculations are correct we
will need 4 or 5 virtual volumes for each physical 3590 which means our TMC
volume count will rise dramatically but I am more concerned about the impact
to HSM and the CDS's because we will probably have more connected volume
groups.

Thanks,
Wayne Bileci
