FTP.DATA

2005-05-31 Thread Howard Rifkind
Hello all,

I'm trying to find the file FTP.DATA.

More then likely it should have a name like HLQ.FTP.DATA but I can't find it in
my system the way it is presented here.

Any ideas/suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Howard,

Check your PROCLIB procedure for stating FTP. Ours looks like this:

   The SYSFTPD DD statement is optional. The search order for
   FTP.DATA is:

   SYSFTPD DD statement
   jobname.FTP.DATA
   /etc/ftp.data
   SYS1.TCPPARMS(FTPDATA)
   tcpip.FTP.DATA

Re: FTP.DATA

2005-05-31 Thread Charles Mills
Just happen to have it in one of the reference manuals for our product:

FTP.DATA is IBM's term for the FTP parameter dataset. There is no
dataset actually named FTP.DATA. The search order for "FTP.DATA" is:
SYSFTPD DD statement in FTP server started task cataloged procedure;
jobname.FTP.DATA for server started task; /etc/ftp.data;
SYS1.TCPPARMS(FTPDATA); and finally tcpip.FTP.DATA for the server
machine TCP/IP server.

hello,

If you issue TSO HOMETEST, it will tell you the
name of the FTP DATA file for your current TSO session.

Re: FTP.DATA

2005-05-31 Thread Hal Merritt
Actually, there are two members. One is FTPSDATA and the other is
FTPCDATA. One is for the *server*, and the other is default *client*.

Care to guess which is which?

But: do be aware that these are just defaults. The search sequence is
modifiable. Check the content of SYS1.PROCLIB(FTPD) for server parms.
Carefully.

Also be aware that server parms and client parameter sets are not 100%
compatible. Stay aware of the context as you read the FM's.

Howard,
  Have a look in the hlq.SEZAINST dataset and you should see at least
two members FTCDATA (for the client) and FTPSDATA (for the server) - this
is for a z/OS 1.4 environment.

Hope that helps.

We made it a member of SYS1.TCPPARMS, named FTPDATA. Maybe your shop did
something similar?

"FTP.DATA" is a generic name. The actual dataset names and search order are
documented in "Communications Server: IP User's Guide and Commands" for the
FTP client, and in "Communications Server: IP Configuration Reference" for
the FTP server.

Does anybody else wish the FTP client would merge all files it finds in the
search order, instead of stopping at the first one? The way it works now, as
far as I can tell, if I want to create a userid.FTP.DATA to override a couple
of options in SYS1.TCPPARMS(FTPDATA), I have to copy the system-wide file into
the user file and make the changes, rather than just changing what I want
changed and letting it pick up the rest from the system file.

Re: FTP.DATA

I'm not sure what you're after but we use a proc to exec FTP. The proc
contains a SYSFTPD dd card. We can concatenate other datasets to that to
provide overrides. I have even done the following:

// EXEC FTP
//SYSFTPDDD
//   DD *
 config statements
//SYSIN  DD *

Are you sure that isn't strictly for the server, with userid.FTP.DATA
for the client?

That's not an option for executing the FTP client interactively via TSO. Well,
I suppose the user could use an ALLOCATE command to concatenate the datasets to
SYSFTPD. But it's not very user friendly. It would be simpler if the client
would look for datasets lower in the search order to see if they contained
parameters not overridden by higher datasets.
