I just got this from our IBM CE today. Our firewall rules are written with IP addresses not DNS addresses so this impacts us maybe you too. We have been informed that the external IP address for testcase.boulder.ibm.com will be changing on April 26 2009. This may affect data off-load from IBM equipment such as PE packages and data dumps if the machine is configured for FTP data off-load via IP address rather than host name (due to no DNS being available). This notice involves the ShopZ IP addresses, not the software support interface servers. According to the note, I translate the message as that all the public IP addresses for IBM will be changing to the 170.xxx.xxx.xxx range. And I consider the 3 day notice a bit short. I realize some companies may not respond to the change even if given 3 months notice. We didn't hear about this - at least not yet. I just FTPed into testcase and there is nothing in the welcome message. Our firewall changes don't happen quickly. They have to go through multiple levels of authorization, security, risk management, etc. April 26th isn't enough time to get the change done with the usual process if a change is required here. There are several FTP server names which all resolve to 207.25.253.31 as the so-called "testcase" FTP server: testcase-yellow.boulder.ibm.com testcase.software.ibm.com testcase.boulder.ibm.com If you are using any of the above names, and the below note from Sam is correct, you are affected by this change. And, ... I wonder if we will see changes to other FTP services we likewise depend upon? Such as the one used by RECEIVE ORDER? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=- > /bin/ftp -e download3.boulder.ibm.com 21 Using /etc/ftp.data for local site configuration parameters. As I recall, there are several more FTP addresses in the 207.25.253.x range as well for other purposes. Like many, we have carefully defined (and justified) all the FTP sites at IBM that we interact with to our internal firewall gods, and it is not necessarily trivial to get new sites added. Did anyone find an official notification?
