I can only attribute it to a bad memory and being off the job for 8 months.

The presentation referenced in the above link (mind the broken URL) contains
a typographical error with the 2097 reference as z9 S07 BC.

One of the questionable benefits of the web and Internet searches.

z/HE might be a name used if the new box was closer to the size of a washing

mainframe?

(One reason not to go that route might be that the HE washers use very little

How many of you have heard of an IBM z9 model number 2097? It shows up

What is it and how does it stack up against all the other z9 machines?

The ZHE is the CPC (or processor name) which you define via the HCD so
unless you did this then it could well be the factory default.

Re: 2097?

2008-02-13 Thread Marian Gasparovic
z9 EC has modes S08, S18 etc
but the machine type is always 2094

z9 BC has models R07 and S07, machine type is always 2096

so every z9 EC reports 2094 and every z9BC reports 2096

Then you have capacity settings, like 508, 715, 754 etc for z9 EC and
like A01, Q03 etc for z9 BC. They are also reported in D M=CPU

I can't see that happening. IBM has already proven its willingness to
joint projects with credible partners(like SUN) that are in it for the
long haul and will not drop the ball when everything goes 128bit just
because no-one will lend them the money to do the R&D, still wonder why
a certain company couldn't raise the interest amongst itself to stay in
the mainframe race.

I'm glad I didn't post this - I'm a bit bored with having my throat
jumped down.

First of all, some systems are "soft". Flex-ES and Hercules could be
trivially modded to
store such values.

Secondly, even if '2097' were the designator of some future IBM system,
it doesn't follow that
this is a real one - it might easily be a current or earlier generation
patched in microcode
to see what the software does.

Life would become _exceedingly_ interesting if either PSI or T3 (or
both) applied for an
injunction to prevent IBM from changing its product lineup until the
outstanding legal issues
are resolved.
