Re: SMF record for PDS(E) member updates or adds?

2006-09-26 Thread Barry Merrill
There is no IBM SMF record that tracks member-level access to PDS/PDSEs,
other than the type 42 subtype 21. There is a MEMBER name field in the
SMF 14/15, but that is only populated when the JCL specified the PDS
member name (i.e, the access is BSAM, not BPAM).

I'm aware of two products: PDSMAN that provides member-level access tracking,
and TSO/MON, which tracks member-level access from within ISPF, and both
do write their data to user SMF records.

 John,

PDSMAN cuts SMF audit records for all types of updates to
PDS(E) members (except update-in-place). You control the data
sets and members the records are written for as well as the
type of update (add, delete or replace). You can also specify
the SMF record number to be used. The format of the SMF
records is documented so you can use your own program to
process the results. Or you can report the record contents
 using a PDSMAN provided utility.

Please let me know if I can provide any additional information.

Thanks. At this time a product is not an option. Was looking for a
means to identify a past action, anyway.

DAF will read SMF and look for 'touches'. Might be able to get a pattern of
reads followed by update?

Subject: SMF record for PDS(E) member updates or adds?

Hi, All,

Is there an SMF or other system-generated audit record for *updates* or
*adds* of PDS(E) members? The Type 42 record (z/OS 1.5) subtype 21 is
apparently cut only for *deletions* of members.

TIA,
