It isn't a question of what's common, we are just trying to make sure that either will do the job in a shop as large as ours. Just want to make the best choice for our environment. From the replies I've seen either one will do the job we need. Which brings me to my next question, as our training with RMM has been RTFM only I would like to know if there are any training classes offered or possibly something at Share for RMM training. The STK implementation is already in place, and we are very pleased with it. -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
Re: Using RMM in a large STK environment?
Hi John, not sure what you are asking for, or your definition of large for that matter, but Between 1998-2003 where I worked we shared STK silos between LPARs, most of which ran TLMS but one of which ran RMM. We also had another site that had STK silos and ran CA-1. AFAIK, those workloads have since been consolidated onto a single site sharing STK silos between LPARs and they are still running all 3 TMS packages - RMM, TLMS and CA-1. Now, it is all IBM (RMM and 3494s) here. I don't recall having any issues with the STK silos that were specific to any one of the TMS packages. -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html

I'm trying to get an answer as to how many shops are using STK silos and have also implmented RMM? Currently we are a mixed shop and using both IBM and STK with our direction being all STK. We also have 2 tape management systems RMM and CA-1 with RMM being used on the largest systems, and STK implemented on these first. John, I've seen both CA-1 and RMM effectively used with STK silos, so I can't give you a feel for what's more common. I think you're bucking the trend going with STK since I've seen more IBM installs lately. My current client is replacing 9840 drives with the 3592 with encryption.
