Re: Volume Not Mounted

2005-11-17 Thread Bruce Black

The volume which I am trying to access is in Emulated Disk - OS/2 drive.

I tried suggestions given by every one..
In all, I conclude the Path is Not Physically Available.

I am facing this type of Volume related problem the first time. So please
anyone let me know what needs to be done next in order to make the volume
physically available.

For an emulated disk, there is no real path (channel); the path and the
disk are both emulated. So I would guess that something is broken in
the emulation.

If it is just this one volume which is broken, then I would suspect that
either the physical hard disk on which the emulated disk resides is
broken, or the OS/2 file which contains the emulated disk is corrupted
or overlaid or deleted. Sorry, I have no idea how to confirm or fix this.

Re: Volume Not Mounted

2005-11-16 Thread Bruce Black

Jerry, another useful command is
   DS P,0B81
which will show the status of each path, might give you a clue.

,RESPONSE=P390

Is this really an emulated disk on P/390, or is that just a concidence
of name? If it is a P390, then there are no real paths, and the
problem might be a problem with the hard drives on which the disk is
emulated, or in the P390 configuration (if it changed).

Is this the only disk with this problem, or are there others? If other
disks with the same paths (CHPIDs) are working, then it is probably not
a real path problem. If the VARY command suggested by others don't
work, you may need to get a CE for the disk subsystem to check it out.

Try vary path offline and online, then vary device online after path is
online as follow:
V path(b81,fc),offline
V path(b81,fc),online
V b81,online

Hi Lizette,

Thanks for your reply..

PATH ONLINE Y
CHP PHYSICALLY ONLINE Y

What can I infer from this and what should be my next step on this ?
Can you please breif the steps need to be done because the machine is

Re: Volume Not Mounted

2005-11-16 Thread Lizette Koehler
There are a couple of variations of VARY commands to help bring volumes
online.

V xxx,ONLINE,UNCOND

V xxx,ONLINE,FORCE
You can issue VARY device,OFFLINE,FORCE only from the master
console.

V xxx,ONLINE,UNCOND,FORCE

But that depends that the device is physically available. Is this ESCON
attached? If so, have you verified that the physical path is available?

Have you issued a D M=DEV() or D M=CHP(xx) command to ensure the
physical connection is there?
