SAD testing in sysplex

2016-08-29 Thread Nathan Astle
Hello

I am creating a SAD test for one of our sandbox system which is part of
sysplex shared with other production LPAR.

So as a SAD testing, I am bringing down the LPAR and leaving with just few
task up.

My question is when I load the SAD IPL and once I confirm the SAD IPL with
the VOLUMES used for SAD datasets.

Can I remove the sandbox LPAR from sysplex prior to confirming the SAD
datasets or after completing the SAD process I can remove the SANDBOX lpar
from sysplex ?

Are there any difference?

Syncsort step running too long

2016-08-07 Thread Nathan Astle
Hi

We have upgraded our syncsort from 1.4.2 to 2.1

Post the upgrade there some batch jobs running too long which used complete
within 5min prior to upgrade.

So to diagnose I have taken the dump of the batch job to pursue the issue
with syncsort.

The Job was doing I/O but not sure why it was running too long without
completing.

Did anyone face this issue at your shop ?

Well Job log didn't show any errors using which I can research further.

We are at zOS 2.1.

SYSLOG or logrec too didn't give any much information

Re: S00C Slip trap for any Stc

2015-12-18 Thread Nathan Astle
Hi Group

Basically I am trying to capture the SLIP for the XCF signal failure in our
base sysplex environment.

Our SMF logstream has been defined in IXGLOGR with dasdonly. Does that mean
IXGLOGR will Buffer SMF records in memory if it cannot write to DASD ?

What might be happening here, is that the S00C abend affects XCF services,
which in turn effect the users of XCF which are: WLM, JES2, GRS, and
MASTER. At this point GRS becomes unresponsive, and won’t permit the ENQ of
a dataset, if that dataset is the IFASMF logstream, the records start to
backup, where does IXGLOGR put them. Would allowing IXGLOGR to use
structures in the CF help prevent IXGLOGR from stealing real storage to
buffer SYS EVENTs in the event of the S00C abend of XCF?

Any suggestions ?

Regards
Nathan

SYMUP - Umod

Hello All,

I am in a process of customizing for z/OS upgrade. So one Item which came

I was referring : http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg247328.pdf

++USERMOD(umod_name) REWORK(2005001). ++VER(Z038) FMID(HBB7709) . ++JCLIN .

UCLIN RC(APPLY=4) . REP SAMP(IEASYMUP) RMID(umod_name) . ENDUCL . /*

Sorry if the above information scrambled. I was just wondering what could
be Ideal value for REWORK on the USERMOD statement.

Could someone please clarify or guide ? I am going from z/OS 1.13 to z/OS

I do have the Product libraries in the APF,LPALST00,LINKLIST. This are VSAM

This is interesting. I was thinking it was the 1708 return, that is data

would be if the dynamic allocation did something, such as setting any bit
on in the S99FLAG2 field. This would be to do something like wait for
DSN if not immediately available instead of failing, wait for volumes

Could it be that your product is supposed to be APF authorized but isn't on
the new system? I.e. the DSN is not in the APF list. Or it is in the
LINKLIST on the old system with LNKAUTH=LNKLST whereas on the new system,
 you have LNKAUTH=APFTAB ?

 Just a thought.

This is correct. There are special dispensations for VSAM data sets

The listcat with entry of those alias are defined to the MCAT of xOS image

Not sure why it is not visible though I have put the datasets in the

Is there an alternative way to read the number of DASD present in

I would think since it runs on a z9 or higher I would say it would be the
CFCC level of a z9 processor. The link is below for processor CFCC levels.

Sometimes there are clues in other messages.

Second, have you used ISRDDN under ISPF to see if there are any other
DFSORT modules other than where you expect them in the LINKLST or LPALIST?

Third, have you verified that the linklst and lpalst are identical? No
one has done a dynamic change to the linklst or lpalst on either system?

Lastly, why no open an SR with IBM. It will probably be faster for the
 DFSORT team to assist you.

 Hey Nathan,

Do these system use the same security software (RACF?) base? Have you
checked SYSLOG for any authorization error? I don't really think this would
be the case, but such a weird behavior could come from many different
 setups.
As Lizette pointed out, a complete job output might give us some more
 usefull infos.

Nathan,

Since you are sharing the PARMLIB and DASD, you should have the right parms
to set up the LPAR2 to also use the ICEPRMxx. I am not a systems

You can check the defaults using the following. Run this job on both LPARS
