Dynamic IO config with multiple LCSS images

2007-06-25 Thread Gregg Reed
Hello
This is just 1/2 of a CTC connection but it's my first time with a single
control unit statement and 2 CSS's involved; I understand, I need to
define the CU in one CSS, then Modify it for the second.
I think the CSS number for the Modify is the second one I believe, I need
to DEF the devices in both CSS's.
Is that correct?

the chpid statements:
 CHPID PATH=(CSS(1),16),PARTITION=((TPFPR430),(=)),SWITCH=64,  X
   PCHID=5F0,TYPE=FC
* *
 CHPID PATH=(CSS(2),16),PARTITION=((TPFPR440),(=)),SWITCH=64,  X
   PCHID=441,TYPE=FC

the IOCP cu/dev statements:
* *
 CNTLUNIT CUNUMBR=0504,PATH=((CSS(1),16),(CSS(2),16)), X
   UNITADD=((04,004)),LINK=((CSS(1),1F),(CSS(2),21)),  X
   UNIT=FCTC
 IODEVICE ADDRESS=(0504,004),CUNUMBR=(0504),UNIT=FCTC

the DynIO CP commands:
CP DEF CU 0504 TY FICON_CTC UNITADD 04-07 LINK 1f PATH 16 CSS 1
CP MOD CU 0504 CSS 2 ADD_CSS_access PATH 16 LINK 21
CP DEF DEV 0504-0507 UNIT_A 04 CUNUMBR 0504 CSS 1 CTC EXT

Yes Alan,
I suppose your right. Mods to VM are depreciated these days, but SES
makes it (relatively) easy to do, and ISTR that the mod consists of
making a conditional branch into either a NOP or an unconditional
branch.

As mods I have done in the past go, *I* consider that one to be trivial.

Peter, how about posting that mod?

Shimon,
Try (if your CP version allows)
cp vary offline -
CP VARY OFFLINE SUBCHANNEL -
cp vary offline path xx from all
CP DELETE RDEV -
cp vary offline chpid
-move- cable and vary online chpid

and maybe VARY ONLINE PATH xx to ALL
but I think they'll be there.

Hi,
We have disks which are mirrored using PPRC to a second DASD box.
There are channels connected to the mirror box which we use for
running backups of the mirror copies, thus saving down-time.

We changed the mirror box last night, so now the mirror copies
are on a *different* raid machine.

I wanted to move the chpid that connected to the old mirrors,
to the new mirrors:
1) vary off all mirror volumes
2) vary off path 82 from all
   (and also other chpids that went to the old mirror box)
3) vary off chpid 82
4) disconnect the escon chpid that went to the old box
   and connect in its place the escon that reaches the
   new mirror box.
5) vary on chpid 82

When I tried to vary on the chpid, I got HCP1282I,
which basically seems to mean 'No Virginia, you can NOT
move a chpid to a new device'. (CP has detected that the
channel path has been reconnected to a different device).

Do I ***REALLY*** need to reipl to move a chpid???

Thanks!!
Shimon (who wants to go home, but the backups wont run tonight if I do)

If you believe or even suspect that Performance Toolkit is giving you

measuring tape speed in furlongs per fortnight might be accurate, it's
not exactly useful in most situations. It may be there's a good reason
for changing the metric. As my world-famous colleague says, It depends.

But as Barton said, make your decision about performance products (e.g.
ESAMON, OMEGAMON, PTK, homegrown) based on your company's goals and needs,
not on the values of any particular field on any particular report.

But, whatever you choose, CHOOSE! If all you want to do is kick the

gauge, and thermometer aren't really important. However, if you're going
to take her out on the Autobahn and redline it, you gotta have 'em.

doesn't make noise as you rev it up.)

I sometimes also use odd sizes (particularly 43x133) in the way that Kris

Re: OT: Cursed Scroll Lock key vs 3270 emulators

2006-06-15 Thread Gregg Reed
Does this help?

Scroll-Lock Key
When the Scroll Lock keyboard indicator is turned on, the cursor movement
keys
and the Page Up and Page Down keys are used to scroll windows only when you
specify With Scroll-Bar in the Window Setup window. If you specify Without
Scroll-Bar, you cannot use the Scroll Lock key, because the entire screen
is
displayed. For example, cursor-movement keys do nothing in Scroll Lock
mode.

We use IBM Personal Communications for 3270 emulation (PLEASE, I like it
and I also have absolutely NO SAY in what we use - let's not suggest
alternatives for this one problem).

When the Scroll Lock (or ScrLk) key is (always accidentally) pressed
from an emulated 3270, odd and very frustrating things happen. On my full
keyboards I always just pull the Scroll Lock keycap right off they
keyboard (along with the stupid Windows keys).

But my IBM X41 laptop has Scroll Lock (defined as the lower-case key) and
NumLock key (defined as the uppercase key) on the same key, so I cannot
readily pry that keycap off without losing NumLock, too.

PCOM's keyboard remapping utility won't allow you to re-map (or turn off)
the Scroll Lock key. Has anyone else discovered a way to forcibly prevent
this cursed key from working while in a 3270 emulator session? Thanks in
advance.
