The 'TYPE' in this case is the engine. Linux doesn't make sense in that
context.

OpenSolaris, for one thing. Perhaps others in the future.

Oops! Right you are!
Mario must have figured it out.

Note also you can do this on an IFL only box too.
Kind of a good idea in case someone defines a general purpose processor to your
LPAR. It's not a good thing to end up where you didn't plan to.

You meant to say "TYPE IFL", not "TYPE LINUX":
COMMAND DEFINE CPU 0 TYPE IFL
COMMAND DEFINE CPU 1 TYPE IFL

Sounds like a "requirement" to me. After all, what else runs on an IFL? So it
would make sense to have LINUX as an alias for IFL in that statement,

You're welcome. It's not very clear how to do this in the doc. I submitted a
readers comment form about that and it was accepted.

Hi all:

I have a in a second LPAR, one z/VM and SUSE Linux installed, on the HMC
customization profile is selected the IFL and 5% of the processor CP's
for z/VM, now the problem I have that Linux starts using the processor
CP and not IFL, if I connect with user performance monitor shows me that
the activity for the IFL (CPU 01) is at 0 while the CPU 00 (CPU BASE 00)
is in the range of 13-87.

I changed the entry in the user directory "linux" as follows:
CPU 00 BASE
CPU 01

in user EXEC PROFILE I put the command:
'SET vconfig MODE LINUX'

We start the linux user and always the same, which only consumes CP
processor resource.

Anyone have any idea how to work only IFL processor instead of the CP?
