Re: z/VM 5.4.0 CMS commands are now mixed case

2008-11-18 Thread Kris Buelens
Actually there have been 3277's that displayed mixed case. The test
room in IBM BE was equipped with a mixture of both. I always looked
for one that was mixed case capable. Even when I had no luck, I tried
to work with mixed case but couldn't verify my typings then.

2008-11-18 Thread Scully, William P
Hmm. OK, how about this.

- He's on a real 3278 with the blue switch which selects: a,A / A

- Or perhaps a 3277, where the display is always in upper-case, even
though the keyboard strokes are in mixed case.
- Or, while we're grasping at straws, how about this: Someone removed
that APAR from 1980-something which corrected the boo-boo where CP would
allow a 3270-data stream to be sent in a MSGNOH that could be used to
include like, "Hi Alan!<3270 invisible control char>CP
SHUTDOWN Next time Alan presses the ENTER
key, KABOOM!

OK, I'm really just making stuff up now.

(Why am I replying to Alan? For some reason I didn't get the original
email. And besides, it's fun to tease the animals in the zoo.)

Yes, TERM MODE CP would give the symptoms of upper case input redisplay,

Rather than posting your ³perceived solution² to your problem, can you tell
us what your actual problem is? What are you trying to solve, as opposed to
what you think the solution might be?

By the way: CMS has been able to accept lower case at the command line for
many years. CP tends to convert everything to upper-case, but not CMS.

What a mess! Very confusing. For clarification, Ray is asking (and
please confirm, Ray) about the ECHOING of certain commands. UCENG (or
other SET LANG) would apply to RESPONSES from commands. Vewy
diffewent.

In my experience, commands echoed by CMS are echoed as entered and
have been for a very long time. (VM/SP R1? certainly R5) But
commands echoed by CP are echoed in upper case to this day (5.4).

Anyway ... we're talking about command redisplay, not input case
sensitivity nor command output (SET LANG).

Just trying to get everyone on the same scree... er, uh, the same

Perhaps when you upgraded to z/VM 5.4 you chose AMENG (American English)

There is NO problem. Every thing works as before. I just noticed a
difference between our prior VM systems and 5.4.

Our prior systems would convert anything typed in CMS to upper case once
the enter key was pressed. Now with 5.4 the translation does not occur.

With 5.4:
q alloc = q alloc
q t = q t
ind = ind

With 5.2:
q alloc = Q ALLOC
q t = Q T
ind = IND

Not sure what changed. Maybe during the install I answered something
different with 5.4 compared to prior installs. Is there a SET command to
change this?

Isn't it to do with the SET LANG option? One of the options is UCAMENG or
something like that? This one is upper case only.

That's the result of the support for password phrases. They are mixed

2008-11-18 Thread Huegel, Thomas
I run into the exact opposite problem.. ie when entering a pipe on the terminal
nothing gets translated to upper case, so one must remember that a 'FIND' or
'LOCATE' must be typed in upper case (assuming upper is what one is looking
for).

Even if you had a "Q EXEC", the input redisplay would not be uppercased.
Are you running some shell exec that accepts commands, redisplays them

With 5.2, CMS (not xedit) anything entered in CMS converted to

no longer convert to uppercase.

Can this be changed via a command to CP or CMS?

What command is causing you a problem? Please post a snippet that
illustrates your problem.

Mike,

I no longer have my 5.2 system up.

Our 5.4 after pressing enter:
q t
TIME IS 10:29:07 EST TUESDAY 11/18/08
CONNECT= 00:04:20 VIRTCPU= 000:00.01 TOTCPU= 000:00.02
Ready; T=0.01/0.01 10:29:07

In 5.2 it would be:
Q T
TIME IS 10:29:07 EST TUESDAY 11/18/08
CONNECT= 00:04:20 VIRTCPU= 000:00.01 TOTCPU= 000:00.02
Ready; T=0.01/0.01 10:29:07

Ray,

I'm confused. To my knowledge, nothing changed between 5.2 and 5.4 with the way
CMS commands are handled. Do you have an example?

Thanks!

z/VM 5.4.0 CMS commands are now mixed case

With 5.2, CMS (not xedit) anything entered in CMS converted to uppercase when
the enter key was pressed. With 5.4, the characters no longer convert to
uppercase.
Can this be changed via a command to CP or CMS?
