Tapeless segment tranfser between LPARs?
As part of introducing red hat 6 to our environment, my shop has been creating NSSes and DCSSes for boot and application loading. Now we are ready to move the segments into our non-production LPARs. Previously for z/VM-oriented segment backup and movement, we had used Chris Langford's SFBLOK utility without incident, but the version we have does not seem to be able to handle these (and every link I have seen to check up on it is dead). Which leads to my question... Is there another freely available utility out there for moving segments from spool to minidisk and back again? Or is there some combination of CP commands to retrieve and load non-CP/CMS data into a segment? Thanks, Daniel Bewley

But that only works for DCSSs, not NSSs. Also, if I remember correctly from trying them a few years ago, the original date of the segment is not saved as it is in SPXTAPE. That plus as Richard says below, they only work for DCSSs. Hi, Daniel. The SFBLOK utility is now being offered as a supported, commercial product, VM/Back-Spool, by ITC, for a very reasonable price, imho. http://p390.com/products.htm DJ On 04/21/2011 09:53 AM, Daniel Bewley wrote: As part of introducing red hat 6 to our environment, my shop has been creating NSSes and DCSSes for boot and application loading. And, only for segments that are addressable by CMS. This means no above the line (where the line is 2 GB) segments. There's also adding your support to the outstanding requirement for SPXTAPE to support disk transfer (or better yet, a PIPE-friendly input/output stream so we can connect it with anything we want). Your local IBMer can get your organization on the list as supporting the requirement. Doesn't mean that IBM will get around to it any time soon, but at least it might up the priority a bit. Speaking of which, IBM: Any progress on getting the PIPE-friendly DDR shipped as the default DDR? That would be *WAY* cool for 6.2 -- db -Original Message- From: David Boyes Sent: Thursday, April 21, 2011 1:43 PM To: IBMVM@LISTSERV.UARK.EDU Subject: RE: Tapeless segment tranfser between LPARs?
