Judy,
I have 5 Icelandics, two are foals. I got Gloa a couple of years ago,
almost exactly 10 years after the last of my old Icelandics died. Gloa
is my primary riding horse. Then I got a really nice but unregistered
pinto mare from Dawn Shaw named Netta. Last Spring I got a mare named
Grima who was pregnant by Lanny Carroll's Kolskeggur. Gloa and Grima
had two nice fillies named Kyppa and Lafa. All of these horses except
Netta are chestnuts with flaxen manes and tails. I have a palomino QH
gelding named Chigger who went of to work at a children's riding camp
this past summer. He was paid in hay bales in lieu of money, which
turned out to be a very good thing due to our drought and hay
shortage. Come to think of it, we could change Chigger's name to
Chiggur. Then he would fit in better with the Icelandics. I will
send photos separately.

PAINTING trim? No way! I am finishing the trim, piece by piece by
first sanding, then applying three coats of Tung Oil with a sanding
in-between. I love natural woodwork and will do just about everything to
avoid paint.

When we bought our old house in Evanston about 35 years ago someone had
thought it was fashionable to paint woodwork and they had slathered three
different colors on it. I stripped all of it and dug out very beautiful oak
woodwork and refinished it with Tung Oil. It is still beautiful.

It would be probably easier to just paint it and I am getting tired of the
job - it is so much it is going on forever - but I am keeping at it (I am a
Kraut, after all, hahaha). I just regret that I have no time to ride. But
that too will pass and then we will live here in the country happily ever
after and will have plenty of time for the horses.

Africa was great and I just sent some photos, the horses were fine.
Stella my 24 yo Cushings mare had an abscess while I was gone but the
vet dug it out and she is fine now. I have had her on LMF low carb
since August with a bit of Triple Crown Safe Starch and her laminitis
that lasted over 8 months is all better. I am keeping my fingers
crossed. It is interesting, I thought her laminitis had cleared up but
she was still lame and holding up one foot. The vet insisted I must
keep her on banamine but when I stopped it another abscess burst and
she was fine. Dr Kellon of the Cushings list suggested that the
banamine would keep the abcess at bay and it was true. She developed
the next one while I was gone and perhaps the manure got in the hole
or something. I now have her in boots and she feels great.

The others spent the time in a 30 acre pasture with two other
Icelandics down the street, a quarter horse and a thoroughbred, they
had a ball.
