Re: [IceHorses] Breaking News - PET FOOD RECALL

2007-04-01 Thread Janice McDonald
hanging out with my vet thurs nite after he sedated nasi for an eye
injury (he's ok), I asked if he had seen any dogs or cats affected.
He said in a year he has seen at LEAST one dog a week with
inexplicable liver failure. He says this has been going on a long
time. He is the only vet in a 50 mile radius of extremely rural
country. So imagine if he was in an area with way more cats and dogs!

According to self reporting done on one of the dog web sites...the
numbers are over 2,000 pet killed by Menu Foods.

Since the recall...there has been a ton of information coming out
about how pet food is made. The truth about some big name companies
who were telling pet parents that they products were human grade, made
with care, etc. Turns out many of the premier pet food was being
made by the same company that made the cheap stuff. Lots of upset pet
parentsincluding me. I've been buying top of the line raw food,
only to find out...they support Menu Foods, a company who conducts
cruel invasive animal testing.

Really...who can you trust now to feed your pets?

Here's some links to more info on the recall pet products and other
pet food makers.

I feel completely bummed out about all of this. So far my dogs are ok. I
feed Purina One for sensitive systems, not on the recall. I also feed about
2 tablespoons of alpo wet in their dry but not the serial numbers noted in
the recall. Still, I'm going to be feeding cooked hamburger as the wet food
for awhile and I also get the healthy request (low salt) campbells old
fashioned vegetable soup as a gravy for the dry. It's cheap and one can
mixed with water lasts a couple of days for 2 dogs since I don't saturate
the food, I just put in enough to make a slight gravy of the dry and they
get peas and carrots and some pasta to boot. I know alot of people who
prepare all the food from scratch for their dogs. I just don't have the time
or energy to add that to my daily routine... but cooking hamburger I can
handle.

[IceHorses] Breaking News - PET FOOD RECALL

2007-03-30 Thread ToltallyICE
Melamine has been found in effected dogs. ABC News is apparently now saying
the numbers thought to be 1000 or more are now believed to possibly be 10
times that. Clinics are claiming patients are also affected by the DRY
FOODS. A shipment of the suspect wheat gluten was received by one US maker
of dry dog food, it isn't known whether it was used in the final product. No
recall has been issued yet. Melamine is used to make plastic kitchen
utensils and as a fertilizer in Asia.

It just goes on and on. I use Wysong, AvoDerm and Royal Canin and haven't seen
their brand mentioned anywhere as yet. Hope we're safe.!
