I contacted the lady who is setting up the clinic and asked her that
but she hasn't responded yet.

Isn't it? Kevin was asked to do some demos for some people in
Detroit, but he can't go until he gets his passportLast I heard it
was taking three weeks if you went directly to the office.

It's Level 1 and a Level 2 clinics by a certified instructorif I
wanted to see the Parelli's I'd have to travel cuz I don't think
they'd ever come here.

I think any training done on any horse has to be individualized for
each horse. Just yesterday I received some advice regarding Dagur's
progress that I know I won't follow, simply because it would set Dagur
up for failure and he doesn't need that right now.

However, I did tuck the advice away for the future, and maybe I'll use
it someday.

We are the only advocates the horses have.

Overall, I'd say not really...but the INDIVIDUAL horse's personality makes a
lot of difference. I think it's not uncommon to see the Parelli's and their
instructors working with some fairly "hot" horses, and I do think there's
some differences in how you might work with a "hot" versus cold horse. But,
Icelandic's aren't the only "cold" horses, and not all Icelandic's are
equally cold. (And when you get right down to it, the words "cold" and
"hot" are oversimplifications...)

Will that be the Parelli's themselves doing one of their weekend seminar
things, or will it be a riding clinic by one of their certified instructors?

I think the Icelandics tend to "get" the games pretty easily; especially if
they are one of the Icelandics who have "learned to learn" ahead of time.

It seems to me that the horses who have "learned to learn" catch on a little
quicker than the horses who just "do as they are told".

Don't worry about it, tho, Virginia; since you and the horses are both new
to the games, it'll take a little while to be comfortable with what you are
doing.

If you can get to a PNH demo, or a clinic (as an auditor), or maybe go see
Janet in VT, it may be helpful to you.

[IceHorses] PNH games

2007-02-25 Thread Virginia Tupper
I've just started Level 1 about a month ago and haven't been able to
put a lot of time into it because I have to work around the arena
schedule which means Sat & Sun evenings are usually free for me, other
than that my games have been limited to Friendly while handling.

Both horses are fine with the Friendly game with the Carrot Stick
although they both seem to be holding still like they're waiting for
something to happen. Gat is always like that with or without the CS
and always has been since we've had her--I'm wondering if that's her
nature to always be so cautious.

I've gone through all 7 games with both Gat and Orri--not perfectly
but we've done them. Gat is easier to work with and seems to
understand everything although both horses seem to think I want to
lunge them when I yo-yo them out, and Orri doesn't want to yo-yo back
in.

Gat will pick up all her feet from one side, no problem. Orri won't
pick up any foot--it's like we're back to square one with that. Both
are figuring out to lower their heads from my hand at their poll.

All in all I can't complain -- it's slow coming along because I don't
have a place to play with them but once the weather gets better I'm
hoping to be able to use the outside arena if it's not boggy or else
go in the pasture or side yard when the arena is used.

I know a horse is a horse, but would the personality of the Icelandic
respond differently to PNH?
