They call parts of Devon and Cornwall the English Riviera

Nice! Is that your backyard, Mic? :) When I was about 12, I went through
this phase of reading these historical romance novels. This was before
the days of the Fabio-on-the-cover bodice-busters, so these were rated G
or at least PG. This was after I'd finished all the Jane Austen/
Bronte-sister classics. One author in particular wrote about Wales all the
time. I'm trying to think of her pen name - that was a LONG time ago.
Anyway, there always stories of her characters staring out to sea, or
rushing along some windy path by the sea, trying to make it home before the
gale. I hadn't thought about those books in many years, but I always
remember them when I see your pictures.

You can ride at Pt. Reyes National Seashore in northern Ca. You go from
woods, to a lake, into grasslands and then down to the beach! It's great.
you can camp at a private horse camp right next door.

I have to ditto that, that photo could be 5 miles from our house,
Point Reyes is a 45 minute drive south. Thank goodness for the State
and National Parks and the California Coastal Commission. Since they
formed you cannot build on the coast in new places and if you have
large acreage bordering the coast, you have to hide the house. It is
very restrictive but we are saving the viewsheds and getting access
for horses and people in all kinds of new places. We have 2 beach
rides within 10 miles of here and besides Point Reyes a 3,500 State
park with great ocean views about 20 miles north.

It is just north of San Francisco, in Marin county. It is really quite
lovely, a peninsula of land along the San Andreas fault. It is moving
northward at a very slow rate but is very different from the landscape
across the faultline. There are horse camps and BB's that board
horses. My place is about 45 minutes or so and we have room for horses
to stay awhile.

I never had much desire to see Great Britan until your posts and I
started reading Rosamunde Pilcher's novels that are about
people/families in England and Scotland. I was fascinated to learn
that there are areas in England that are almost tropical with palm
trees. She's a very good story teller and I feel like I've almost
been there. Seems like very lovely country.

Have you tried Boa Boots with gaiters? I also sometimes use old sox that

Yes, I've tried them. I must have begged or borrowed half a dozen
different ones and nothing stays on in the mud. Kalsi's hind feet are
quite long and narrow naturally, and it's really hard to find anything
that will stay on at all

Say hi to Kalsi for me.

Will do. You should come over and see him! ; )

I missed the water when we lived in Arizona, being brought up right on the

when I lived in sacramento I missed everything water related. From
growing up on the gulf of mexico I could not even believe what people
called seafood out there. for one thing the shrimp was what we call
bait shrimp for fishing and the fish was something if I bought
here I would throw away as rotten, a strong fishy smell and mushy
texture meat. Frozen stuff from alaska etc. I couldnt even hardly
take the crab, alaskan king crab tastes like garbage if you've ever
eaten a sweet succlent blue crab right out of the bayou But i did
love the striped bass fresh caught, reminded me of our mullet.

It's the sea. In fact, if you carried on straight out from that beach,
you would end up in the US. Bit far though, even for Tivar.

I just got back from my first go on a sea kayak. Fun! My neighbour has
just started to ride and I've taken him out a few times. He's an
expert kayaker and in return gave me a lesson. The sea is warm, the
sun was shining and I had a good time. Just wish the thing was not 6
inches narrower than my butt! ; )

I live real close to a big beautiful creek and people canoe and kayak
there all the time. I hated canoes, I always turned them over but my
husband is trying to talk me into a kayak trip. I take Tivar down to
the creek by the bridge, all my horses, they walk out in it, stand
there, its about two feet deep there. Tivar sits down in it like a
dog and just lets it flow around him. Then gets up, staggers a few
feet to the beach and just fas over , legs bouncing in the air
like a sprayed roach. You have to make sure theres no saddle on him!

This thing is a sea kayak - it's about 7 ft long and 2 ft wide, with
very pointy ends and a flat bottom. I must have turned over about 20
times, but I got it in the end and it was great to play in the surf
with it.

Speaking of which, I actually managed to potter down to the beach with
old Kalsi last week. He thoroughly enjoyed himself, and we both had to
exercise great self control to stay in walk. I'm going to have to get
back shoes put on him though, he's really uncomfortable without them
(we're riding quite a bit on tarmac roads as the nicer rides are all
too long for his state of fitness), and any boots seem to rub him.
