as for tight nosebands, i just feel like its just so BEYOND established that a horse learns from THE RELEASE. so constant pressure equals: zero release. right? right. Janice -- yipie tie yie yo
RE: [IceHorses] Re: was KY Icelandic show now nosebands
I try to ask myself: is it good for horses and people for me to say this... We have a wonderful opportunity here to really make a difference! We have seen it with walking horses! We shut down the WGC last year! for the first time in a 60 year history! So i try and say what I think needs to be said and if it bothers someone but is better for horses then oh well, get over it. If you alienate someone by being rude, sarcastic and undermining, then there's VERY LITTLE chance you will ever get through to them. Just like ripping on a particular person instead of focusing on explaining WHAT they are doing wrong and how it affects the horse. When you rip on a particular person, you are absolutely guaranteeing yourself that you will never reach him or her. It's not productive for anyone's cause, especially the horse's. > Does anybody on here think dropped, tight nosebands are a good thing?? if so, state your case so i can argue with you sensibly :) > Janice -Now that's a good question Janice :-). I personally don't ride in one. I can't answer if they are good, bad right or wrong. But I can tell you that it prevented Osp from clearly telling me that she wasn't comfortable in the single joint snaffle bit that we initially rode her in. We now ride in either a mild ported barrel kimberwick or a sidepull, neither with a noseband (unless you call the sidepull a noseband). How's that for an argument :-)~ Dawn Bruin-Slot, northern Michigan Fuzzy Logic Equine

I try to ask myself: is it good for horses and people for me to say this. And of course sometimes I smart off trying to be funny and maybe regret it, but I am trying to make a gerater effort and trying to be more helpful to people and horses. Dawn, what a great idea. I think sometimes when we put things in writing, they can come out sounding pretty harsh. Nancy

Dawn, what a great idea. I think sometimes when we put things in writing, they can come out sounding pretty harsh. Nancy Yep, and I confess, I AM having a bad day... but we have a few people who only seem to come on the list to defend the same old practices, even when they continue to escalate (as in the noseband issue) ...well, it makes it hard for me to stay nice, especially after hearing the same things over and over for five years. It gets tiring, even on a good day... Karen Karen Thomas Wingate, NC No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
