They look like working sheepdogs to me Is this the dog version of
the Irish Tinker Horse? If so, you can get them for £50 from just
about every farm around here!

I have never seen one! amazing. They do look like your maggie tho dont
 they?? Janice

No, Maggie doesn't really look like one to me. She looks more setter-ish, not
shepherd-y, but who knows what she really is a mix of. I did see an apparent
stray English Shepherd in the neighborhood a day or two before Maggie showed
up...but I now have a suspicion where she came from and she might not be
related to that English Shepherd at all. She COULD be part English Shepherd,
but she doesn't look a lot like one.

The woman who came up to tell me there was a stray near my driveway called back
twice to check on her. She looked pretty poor, and really seemed oddly upset
about her, and she had a bunch of stuff in her car when she came by... like she
was moving. She mentioned her husband was very upset with her. After
thinking about it, Maggie wasn't skinny when she came, and was pretty clean. I
wonder now if the woman was leaving her husband, and couldn't keep her puppy,
so when she saw the sucker sign by my driveway, she brought her to me. Who
knows...? The woman wasn't from my neighborhood - not sure why she was driving
by our country road. Maggie has a home now, so I guess it doesn't matter.

Hi,

I am an English Shepherd enthusiast and though they come in many
colors, black and tan is my favorite. We have had 4 since 1966 and
though we have too many dogs right now and cannot buy him, I saw this
one come up on the ES list and wonder if any of you need a great farm
dog? He is so cute! http://www.freewebs.com/vinehillfarm/puppies.htm

Google NESR, the rescue site for English Shepherds and you can learn
all about them. They are a pretty rare breed and not AKC but have two
or three breed registries. They come in sable, black and white,
tricolor, and black and tan, my favorite. They really can herd, do
agility and be a great house pet.the only problem is that they are so
smart that you can find them ruling you if you are not careful. As
Alistair says, he cannot imagine life without as least one.

What a nice dog... I am a bearded collie person... both of mine are rescues
but these look like wonderful dogs. I cannot find any info on pricing but
I'm certain they are too expensive for me.

I had one too ANN, She was a wonderful dog... and CUTE.. she was black
and white... a great farm dog... My hubby wanted a collie, so I got a
collie, but she has not been as good of a dog as our English Shepard
was, and the hair was much easier to deal with on the ES then on our
Collie

I was prettty surprised that Janice hadn't heard of them. My aunt and uncle
had them when I was a tiny kid, and I got my first one when I was 12, after
my collie died. They are pretty common in my immediate area. I always
assumed they were common everywhere. :)

Bia, they are not an AKC breed, and they have been common farn dog/pets in
NC in past years. I grew up with them all around - neighbors and relatives.
If you are seriously interested, check one of the NC farm ad sites, like the
Agricultural Review. I used to see pups going for $35-75 when registered
breeds were more like $100-250, so they certainly weren't expensive then.
(Obviously that's been a while.) I haven't seen any for sale lately, so I
have no idea what their prices are now.
