An aquaintance of mine had that very thing happen 4 weeks ago- her calm, sweet, 
I will never hurt you horse kicked out at a horsefly trying to bite her,  this 
woman was just bent over near her rear doing something else entirely(pulling 
dandelions probably) and WHAM-broke her arm in 3 places.  When her horse heard 
her scream she put all 4s on the ground and never moved a muscle until she was 
lead away by a very upset husband.

wow, just proof a deadbroke horse can kill you dead... my Jas would
not kick at a human if his life depended on it and he just now at
feeding time almost kicked me to the moon,  He kicked out and hit the
bucket in my hand and knocked it 20 feet in the air because he kicked
at my big tom turkey around his feet aggravating him.  If he had hit
my hand, which he missed by a hair, I would be on my way to the
emergency room!  a reminder for me to be more vigilant!
