They called me earlier this afternoon from the Disaster Preparedness Group to ask if I would be willing to accept evacuated horses if it was needed. She told me to be sure to get the owners to sign a release, so I would have no problems later. Oh my, I guess you always have to expect the worst--well, I can hope for the best. Re: [IceHorses] Fires in No CA
All we have is smoke, smoke , smoke. There are over 800 fires burning in CA and we are as dry as can be. I drove down to the bay area today and had to have the inside the car recirculation on the whole way except for bridges over the bay where it seemed clearer and got the stuffy air out. I am sure glad we live in grasslands and near the coast where the wind blows in the afternoons from the sea. Ann

There are several fires today in Northern California and Nevada, and the winds are picking up We drove from Utah yesterday and the winds were horrid. Our camper was all over the place. It was quite stressfull. I know where Summit road is off of 17 in Santa Cruz. I have a house near there. Lorraine

Lorraine, where exactly does your sister live; which direction from Judy's? Were you able to get through to her on the phone? I am 30 minutes away to the west in Oceanside; all is well here except for the smoke and ash. Let me know if she needs help. ~ Gail Gail, she is in Temecula. Apparently that town is ok. She did call me back to a sobbing baby that I am. Thanks for your concern Lorraine __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

How warm in the day is it there?? I now a problem with evacuating here is you get caught in traffic and the horses get miserably hot in the trailer... Janice-- yipie tie yie yo
Re: [IceHorses] Fires - Judy
Another update on Judy - they have made it north out of Fallbrook, caravaning with Linda Maddack, her family and horses. They are headed north towards DeLuz and the freeway. The problem with the freeway is that the trailers are careening in the very high winds. They hope to make it to relatives, but not sure how long that will take... not sure where they will spend the night. They had to evacuate from Fallbrook Lorraine __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Re: [IceHorses] Fires - Judy
its scarey in a disaster because altho the world has all sorts of helpful info, when you are in the disaster you are in a bubble cut off from everything, no tv, no satellite, no cell phones. So often you dont even really know how bad it is til its over! Maybe the ones in contact with Judy can print out and make a list of info and helpful emer aid locations etc and let her know when you ARE able to reach her. I have a feeling it is going to be quite some time before people are allowed back into the area and its mentally tormenting to residents to not know whats going on at home... I've been in contact with a friend in Idyllwyld, I think she is ok where she is, but has no electricity, maybe it will be repaired by 7 tonight. She says she has been sitting in the dark all night, with her wolf by the door and her iguana in bed with her for heat, she says it's cold up there on top of the mountain. Very nerve wracking, even for those not exactly in the path, you never know where the fire will spread to next. I remember the 94 earthquake in LA, I was on the far end of the county, but for a minute I thought my little house was going to come down on me. I was shocked when the news went on, I'll never forget it, a newscaster came on the air, not really ready for tv, all shaken, and then when the pictures started to come in, the collapsed freeways, it was crazy, and the people in the middle of it didn't even realize everything that was going on until later. If people need a place for horses (or other animals)-my family has a ranch up the 101 just north of Paso Robles-we have corral or pasture space-it is nothing fancy as it is a working cattle ranch-but i'm sure something can be worked out if needed-just e-mail me. Maggie
