Beliau lahir di Beijing Juni 1885 dan meninggal di Barkeley California tahun 1944 karena kecelakaan mobil. Ia adalah anak perempuan tertua dari Yu Keng, pejabat dynasti Ching saat itu dan istrinya Louisa Pierson, anak dari pedagang Amerika di Shanghai. Ayah Derling bekerja sebagai konsulat di Prancis dan kemudian dipanggil kembali oleh Empress Dowager Ci Xi yang legendaris (Ia yang mengangkat Pu Yi, the last emperor of china , menjadi raja Qing) untuk menjadi mentri dalam pemerintahannya, dimana kaisar Guangxu saat itu hanya menjadi simbol karena kekuatan politik berada pada Empress Dowager Ci Xi yang mengendalikan semua pemerintahan dari balik tirai Princess Der Ling dipanggil oleh Empress Dowager Ci Xi untuk mendampinginya sebagai court lady alias pelayan/sekretaris dirinya, juga penerjemah bahasa bagi sang ratu dari Maret 1903 sampai Oktober 1905 Berbagai pengalaman unik selama berada di samping ratu, dan membuka mata dunia saat itu tentang China. Milis ini bebas-bebas aja, jadi mau join atau unsub ngga perlu libatkan admin. Kalau mau unsub via email ngga berhasil kan ada jalan lain, manage membership via web. Semua hal bisa dikerjakan di sana, - mau unsub bisa - mau digest bisa - mau nomail bisa - mau ganti email bisa Semua sudah disediakan oleh Yahoo. Jadi banyak cara yg bisa ditempuh, selain pakai email, tinggal kita mau belajar atau enggak. Yang selama ini terjadi banyaknya minta tolong agar di-unsub bukan bagaimana CARA unsub.
