This is the highlight of the Fedora 13 Test Day cycle, with Test Days for NVIDIA, ATI/AMD and Intel graphics all falling this week. Tuesday April 13th is NVIDIA Test Day [1], Wednesday April 14th is ATI/AMD Test Day [2], and Thursday April 15th is Intel graphics Test Day [3]. Although these are Fedora events, the results will ultimately benefit almost all distributions: Fedora tends to use the latest versions of graphics-related components and sends all its changes upstream, so the fixes that result from these events will end up in all major distributions. Even if you're not a Fedora user, you can help Linux as a whole by contributing your test results. The testing can be done using a live image, so there's no need to install Fedora onto your system to contribute to the testing: just download a live image, write it to a CD or USB stick, boot it, and run through the tests. Comprehensive test instructions are available on the Wiki pages, and you enter your results into a table on the Wiki page; there's no need to have a Fedora wiki account to do this. QA team members and developers will be available on the IRC channels throughout each event to help with testing and triage, and to work on some of the problems immediately. The more results we get and the more bugs we expose, the better it is for everyone, so if you have time, please check out the Wiki pages and join the IRC channel - #fedora-test-day on the Freenode network - to help out! @Binny If you are referring to the default image viewer for ubuntu, eye of gnome, from version 2.30.0 has the feature to play animations of gif images. Sorry for being late to publish minutes. The meeting started at 18:14 . 1 . The first topic for discussion was the regular meeting of FSUG-TVM. The suggetions from the discussion are.. * Everyone agreed to have a meeting of FSUG on every month. * Time of the event will be the second saturday of the month at 15:00 hrs. * Venue was fixed as Zyxware Techologies, Pangappara. 2. Then we discussed about the Ubuntu Release party. The major points of discussion were * Event will be from morning to noon * We decided to have a Ubuntu cake to spice up the show. (and it is sponcered by Gokul.) * Funding and support : * Wer'e trying to get support from canonical, * May be we can approch companies like zyxware and organisations like sapce to sponcer our event. * Shop setting: * We'll have a shop to distribute the ubuntu-wares. * We need more volunteers for that * The ubuntu wares distribute through shop will be Disks, T- shirts, Stickers, Print Version of Ubuntu Manual, * Add-on disk *We decided to create an add-on disk with extra softwares to d- istribute in party. Primary suggestion for things to include were a) Ubuntu Packages 2) Windows binaries of popular FOSS tools, * Publicity: This is where we need to focus, The event should be heavily promoted. ( Fire-up your browser and navigate to those SN sites please.) 3. The next topic was the ICFOSS tech fest conducted by FISAT, Angamally. ; Everyone the efforts of FISAT to conduct the event. [fsug-tvm] VP8 to be open sourced?
Hi, Just yesterday on the sidelines of FSUG meeting, we discussed the possibility of Google open sourcing the VP8 format/codec and the opportunities it could open. VP8 is more than major contender against the controversial H.264 format - the former is considered far superior in quality and efficiency. Coincidentally, news has started spreading around that Google is just about the do that. See this (From a slashdot post): http://newteevee.com/2010/04/12/google-to-open-source-vp8-for-html5-video/ This could be the big moment we were waiting for. Such an action by Google could set the HTML5 standard really free and make the future of Web multimedia really bright. But it is not yet time to celebrate. Google has not yet made any official announcement. This could be a rumour - or even worse, an intentional one intended at arm twisting Google into doing it. we just discussed this matter yesterday n this article pops up today.. wow.. if the news about google tv is right, this news most probably will also be right.. it is just logical for google to open up its codecs if they are going to create a thing like google tv.. lets celebrate when the official announcement comes.. imagine if VP8 really goes open n ziph foundation gets VP8 into ogg container.. even now ogg provides better audio clarity than mp3.. with VP8 the video quality will also surpass any proprietary counterparts.. then mayb a time will come when all the videos available on the web will be ogg.. -- Freedom is the only law. [fsug-tvm] Unable to connect Dataone
Hi Friends I am unable to connect to Dataone internet after upgrading the firmware as directed by BSNL. I used to connect to internet using PPPOE dialer (in both Linux windows). Now it doesn't work on both OSs. Any suggestions. PS: Before upgrading only thee LEDs (Power, DSL, PC) flashed. Now the Internet LED is also flashing. -- Freedom is the only law. Hi, I really don't mind a flame war on this one - The Matroska container is way better than the Ogg container :P On a more serious note, the open source Matroska container format is one that doesn't get the attention it deserves. I have to agree that Ogg is slightly better for streaming. But Ogg was designed with the Vorbis audio format in mind, and later tweaked to allow Theora video. It is hard to make it play anything else. Matroska on the other hand, is more or less future-proof - designed to handle almost anything. Its other capabilities are also impressive. [fsug-tvm] [commercial] Ubuntu training for IT dealers and service technicians.
We are planning to organise a hands on training for for IT dealers and service technicians. The main objective of the program is to make them capable of installing and troubleshooting Ubuntu systems. I visited some computer shops in the last week, for this program. This is my observation: They are not willing to distribute pre-installed GNU/Linux systems because They enough capability to support GNU/Linux systems. They are not confident with GNU/Linux systems, that whether their their customer will accept this. Also not confident that whether it can meet their customer needs. They are not at all aware about unauthorised copy of proprietary software. Some reason windows pre-installed systems: They could make an additional income by selling anti-software. There will not be any driver issue in windows systems(is this fact?) They are not willing to invest on learning. With these things in mind we are planning to organise a one day hands on training in Ubuntu for IT dealers. We are planning it to be at Zyxware technologies office on 25 April 2010 I hope we can do it at a rate of Rs.1000 per trainee. We are supposed to provide a printed copy of Ubuntu manual and some useful notes, which is not covered in Ubuntu manual. For this training we are setting a lab such that each trainee will get one system. I'll up-load the details later. We will conduct this program only after getting 10 registrations. I am unable to connect to Dataone internet after upgrading the firmware as directed by BSNL. I used to connect to internet using PPPOE dialer (in both Linux windows). Now it doesn't work on both OSs. Any suggestions. PS: Before upgrading only thee LEDs (Power, DSL, PC) flashed. Now the Internet LED is also flashing. Did you check whether you are getting internet without dialing. The Internet LED lights up without manually connecting, when the modem is configured to dial the connection automatically when its powered on. You want each and every mail to be read and moderated ? thats not how the group operates. All new members are moderated. When a new member send in something for the first time the admins are notified. If the content in that mail is relevant, the member is no longer put under moderation. This has been explained before. Whenever a member errs, he will be notified. And we expect the member to honor it as a human being would do. The list is not under strict moderation because we are not geared towards geeks. People who have no prior experience in posting to mailinglists should be able to post without fear of moderation/bashing . That sounds something good. using IRC might be helpful more than getting together in some place and doing it.That will also make a waste of time.
