Re: [Ilugc] Alternative to AutoCAD
Hi, I know some of them are: 1.KAD - KDE aided design is a complete 2D CAD system based on QCad by ribbonsoft. It is suited for both beginners and experienced CAD users.2.CYCAS is a piece of architectural software for drafting and design in 2 + 3 dimensions. 3.CAM Expert is the commercial big brother to Qcad. It has a similar interface to Qcad, but with extended features leaning more towards the creation of NC-programs. 4.CADDA software is a true CAD/CAM solution that offers CAD and CAM functionality within one user interface. CAD-data can be imported as 3-D or 2-D models . 5.Varicad offers 3-D solids and 2-D drafting at a very nice price. The user has the options of the icon panels or the pull-down menus. Although I like the text-based menu (pull down), I did find the ``Commands'' nested a bit too deep. Re: [Ilugc] ssh tricks to access any private IP machine without VPN
Windows users have plenty of third-party tools like GotoMyPC, TeamViewer, etc. to overcome the Public IP problems. Now, TeamViewer is available for Linux also. And networking is my focus area. In today's Internet any cool technology uses networking in some way or other. My rich knowledge in networking helps me do several things with a lot of constraints. In several cases even if you pump in a lot of cash you cannot achieve the goal you have without knowledge. FWIW - another cool trick that works for my operations. 1. Pay Rs. 1000/year to MTNL (Mumbai) for a static IP Triband DSL. 2. I have my company DNS served by a gratis DNS service like everydns.net (they were recently bought by DynDNS) but there are still other free DNS hosting services. 3. Define a hostname eg. dslwanport.mydomain.com. 4. With full disclosure to client, define a port forwarding rule at client router to let my staff enter into their network from dslwanport.mydomain.com, directly from our office systems. 5. Next step remote network monitoring using above concept. The Rs. 83.33/month for static IP is well worth it. Alternately, you can map your dynamic IP via DynDNS as well but that would using one of their domain names. The static IP also allows me to come into my office LAN when I am on the road, I point my client to dslwanport.mydomain.com. FWIS, also take a look at TeamView, Logmein etc. for remote administration/access (free for non commercial use). -- Arun Khan ___ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc ___ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc

Yday I had set at(1) to upload my file after p7zip whch is very slow. Sometimes I don't have the patience of girls to sit and hand hold my computer. I feel like cycling and getting some fresh air. I came all the way from my office to find that the power had gone off. ;) Raja clearly demonstrated the best way at should be used. You enter commands directly into the at STDIN and press EOF Ctrl-D. You can instead issue a shell script file as well. But remember this will not work like cron. atd has to be running. Don't get fooled into thinking that at will give some future benefit until you test it with simple print commands or music playing commands.
