It's EULA, not ELUA.

Nice reply.

[Ilugc] IDE for PHP and joomla theme development work

2010-08-23 Thread Mehul Ved
Hi,
A company who's into joomla theme designing and customisation is
looking to move from Windows to Linux. The 2 main problems they are
facing are:-
1. Replacement for Photoshop. According to them, GIMP is not good
enough for their needs. And also, I am myself not competent enough
with it either. So, we have kept it as the second issue for now.
2. A replacement for Dreamweaver which they need to use for their
coding needs. I would like to get recommendations on what would be a
good IDE or any other software to replace Dreamweaver. They intended
audience is recent pass outs from engineering colleges around Mumbai.
These people are barely familiar with Linux and only thing they have
ever used for web designing is Dreamweaver(pirated, of course). A GUI
is a must and vi/emacs are a definite no.

We can not expect 100% equivalent alternate software.

1. GIMP is a perfect replacement to photoshop.
But, we have to unlearn photoshop or learn gimp.
(This is applicable to most of the FOSS alternate software)

2. Eclipse, Quanta, Aptana - Try these things.

Migrating to FOSS is a great decision.
But, before that, we have to train the employees about the
concepts of FOSS, the need for implementation and how-to use the tools.

Prepare for any suitable talk and get a stall.
If already there is a stall, that you know something,
talk to the person and handle the stall for sometime.
Thattime, the other person can visit the other stalls.

am not aware so much in linux tools and applications ?

Hope you are in list for sometime.
There is a series called OAOD.
Just read those mails and install the applications, play around them.
That will give you more view about the existing applications in linux.

 Couple more to add

ALT  + D   delete a word forward from cursor
CTRL + W   delete a word backword from cursor

And Ctrl + T which swaps the last 2 characters before
the cursor. Useful to quickly correct typos.

[Ilugc] OAOD (TuxType)

2010-08-23 Thread Dhastha Gheer
Application: TuxType

What it is:

TuxTyping is an educational typing tutorial game starring Tux, the
Linux Penguin. The player guides Tux to eat fish which are falling
from the top of the screen. Each fish has a letter written on it. When
the player presses the corresponding key, Tux will position himself to
eat the fish. The game is intended for children learning to type,
though it does have higher difficulty levels which even experienced
typists may find challenging.

To know more about:

http://tux4kids.alioth.debian.org/tuxtype/

To install in Ubuntu:

sudo apt-get install tuxtype

where is the personal attack? You said you do not want to place your
software in public domain - am I not entitled to ask where you have
placed it? My software is all in BSD license - and you are free to ask
where the url is (I will not take it as a personal attack)

there is no real subsititute for dreamweaver - because the idea behind
dreamweaver is to make sure the coder knows nothing about coding. The
closest would be quanta plus, but to use that one has to know css, html,
js etc.
