Disaster management is a common mans problem and has been solved by http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_Haiti/Earthquake_map_resources 2 . Kibera in Nairobi, Kenya, widely known as Africa's largest slum has been mapped by mapkibera project http://www.mapkibera.org/ And many more such projects are being pursued and can be pursued by us in our local areas. I believe some work has been done on Mumbai slums . We could do something in chennai for the river Adyar , cooum and its sorrounding areas which are in poverty. [Ilugc] FOSS Lab setup in Hindustan College of Engineering and Technology, Malumichampatti, Coimbatore District
Dear all, Today, myself setup a 52 seat FOSS lab for Hindustan College of Engineering & Technology, Malumichampatty, Coimbatore, for the department of CSE using Fedora-13. The HOD/CSE, dept. staffs, Sys. admin / lab technicians showed more interest in learning GNU/Linux and Open Source Software tools. After having a hour long discussion with Dr.J. Suganthi, it was decided that all the first year students get started doing their practicals on the GNU/Linux platform. For any feedback, pl. contact Dr. J.
