A nice complement to "vnstat" and a must have in the Network/Sys
Admin tool set :)

BTW - it might be worthwhile categorizing the tools/apps into
"network", "host/system", "web app" as

Input devices like keyboard, mice, etc. go through the input subsystem. And the
USB barcode reader in this case seems to act like a keyboard, and hence also
goes through the input subsystem.

Each of these input devices has a device file named /dev/input/eventN. When the
device file is read, key events are reported. See
http://www.thelinuxdaily.com/2010/05/grab-raw-keyboard-input-from-event-device-node-devinputevent/
for an example.

You will have to identify which /dev/input/eventN corresponds to your barcode
reader. This can be obtained from sysfs. Alternatively, there are aliases to
these device files, that make it more obvious. The aliases are present in
/dev/input/by-id/

Vijay

Srini thanks,

This is deployed on Heroku and it is based on a git repository. So, I
can mirror/fork or host it in my github and share.

As Arun said, the API Id, key and secret are potentially abusable. In
fact, in my app I request for permission to post on their wall (to
inform that the results are out)
So, I've to hide those from the source code in the fork and show it
open. I shall do it soon. Thanks for the feedback.

Just a word of caution - Check, double check and re check what terms you
have signed up with Facebook when you got your developer and application
keys. Also, you should be extremely cautious about sharing code for a social
media based application. You are given access to the social graph through
the keys.

[Ilugc] to calculate time taken by process

2011-02-20 Thread narendra babu

Hello all ,

I have a Linux shell script which has many sql statements which are doing
insertion into database sequentially .

to make it parallel running process , i have put them as background process and
to calculate time i have used time command .

i get the times of all the sql statements inside the shell script

for example inside i have statements like below  to run sql insertions
time  sqlplus -s user1/pwdsafe  @a20 &
time  sqlplus -s user1/pwdsafe  @b20 &
time  sqlplus -s user1/pwdsafe  @c20 &

i am calculating time taken by each sql script by putting time command .

i would like to know how can i get the total cpu time  taken to execute all the
statements .

is there anyway other time command to get the time taken by  each process to
complete  .

Thanks in advance

Data is stored equally in all the 3 hard disks but 2/3 alone is data.

So even if any one disk crashes no data is lost.

I normally don't get into this game. I simply use CCD mirroring and get
done with it.

RAID concepts are not worth the trouble for me at least.

What request queue?

Apache 1.x follows the preforked servers approach followed in UNIX.

Apache 2.x started using threads. Either way web requests are handled
quite fast and there is no way you can look at the queue.

This is no mail queue.

[Ilugc] OAOD (NetHogs)

2011-02-20 Thread Dhastha
Application: NetHogs

What it is:

NetHogs is a small 'net top' tool. Instead of breaking the traffic
down per protocol or per subnet, like most tools do, it groups
bandwidth by process. NetHogs does not rely on a special kernel module
to be loaded. If there's suddenly a lot of network traffic, you can
fire up NetHogs and immediately see which PID is causing this. This
makes it easy to indentify programs that have gone wild and are
suddenly taking up your bandwidth.

Features:

It supports

* Shows TCP download- and upload-speed per process
* Supports both IPv4 and IPv6
* Supports both Ethernet and PPP

To know more about:

http://nethogs.sourceforge.net/

To install in Ubuntu:

Open a Terminal and type the following

$sudo apt-get install nethogs

For More help

$ man nethogs
