I am sure it would be an interesting project. However, what is the value add for such device today? IMO, CD/DVDs are legacy - RIP. There is no CD/DVD drive in the bill of materials for systems I configure. I have a bunch of unopened CD/DVD spindles, I had purchased a few years ago. Even MS is providing tools to convert the MS Windows 8 DVD install media on to a (bootable) USB pen drive for installation. No doubt software is still packaged / distributed in ISO format; many are in the hybrid ISO format which facilitates installation from an USB pen drive. I carry the ISO files on my laptop hard drive, dd the relevant ISO file to a pen drive should I need any specific distro for installation. It also reduces the weight of my backpack :) My ten paise. -- Arun Khan ___ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc

Try installing the the software that they would have provided for Linux. And connect to internet via the GUI tool installed. If you are using QT based application; installing Netconnect software in GNU/Linux will create issues. Any QT based app may not work. But your netconnect GUI will work. I tried it in Fedora 16. Finally I removed the software to work with QT based apps. I am facing some similar issues. Exactly at 09.58 P.M my net will be disconnected. Even I confirmed the same with one of my Friend too. -- ** JAGANADH G http://jaganadhg.in *ILUGCBE* http://ilugcbe.org.in ___ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc

How to make the connection persistent for longer time? They have not given the any GUI tool for Linux. I am using wvdial. I faced the same issue. To keep the connection persistent, just keep pinging some url. This might be silly idea. But it works for me. It is getting disconnected because your device is losing connection to their tower/server if it is idle for around 5 minutes. [Ilugc] ToD - puppet
Tool of the Day: puppet Puppet is an opensource configuration management tool. It is written in Ruby and released under the GPL until version 2.7.0 and the Apache 2.0 license. Puppet lets you centrally manage every important aspect of your system using a cross-platform specification language that manages all the separate elements normally aggregated in different files, like users, cron jobs, and hosts, along with obviously discrete elements like packages, services, and files. Puppet's simple declarative specification language provides powerful classing abilities for drawing out the similarities between hosts while allowing them to be as specific as necessary, and it handles dependency and prerequisite relationships between objects clearly and explicitly. version: puppet 3.0.1 size: 3.2 MB to download, 12.5 MB when installed home page: http://www.puppetlabs.com/ regards, dhanasekar ___ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc

[Ilugc] Need advice - Ubuntu 10.04-4 dual boot with windows-7
I have been using ubuntu from 9.04 (of course dual-boot with XP). I have BSNL - wired broadband (not the mobile broadband). Now, have bought a new core i-3, HP desktop (of course pre-installed with Win-7). The same day I installed Ubuntu 10.04. But when restarted found it is not detecting the inbuilt network device at all. After 2 -weeks yesterday re-installed Ubuntu 10.04-4, (downloaded seperately once again), but found the same problem exists. I could not get into the internet at all. there is no problem when using Win-7, it automatically goes to auto DHCP, whereas Ubuntu 10.04 - could not connect, always says no network device found Please suggest what could be the problem. with warm regards s.sivakumar chennai ___ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
