Re: [Ilugc] New Website Development
- Original Message - From: Ashwin Dixit 3. This Linux list is very Indian in flavor. Lots of dissenting voices, and complaints, but very little action. Perhaps the government that governs least is the best government. Yet, this list seems to have no will to govern itself, whatsoever. I could yell, and curse, and insult, and do anything here, and I will be tolerated. Who is going to stop me ( or Girish ) ? There are no moderators here! Isn't it wonderful to know that I can dump sewage here? :-) > If You feel this list is worthless you can leave, nobody is compelling you to stay. Normally this list is not moderated heavily, as almost all members are civilized and cultured. After Shrini intervened things became normal. If any list member likes another member, that is not cause for intervention. I think you are overreacting. If need be we will step in again. We are a heterogeneous group of computer users from the South Indian city of Chennai (aka Madras), united in our use of Free/Libre/Open Source Softwares and support of Software Freedom in general and the GNU/Linux in particular. Re: [Ilugc] call for stalls - SFD
Dear luggies Yesterday Shrini and myself met the HOD of CS of Vaishnav College. He is very dynamic and want the event to have big impact among students. He has done excellent arrangements. We are hopeful of getting good media (tv and print) coverage this time. We are hoping an attendance of not less than 2000. I request all members to come and participate in the event. We need more stalls. Stalls by members with real life working experience will go a long way in driving the software freedom message well. We are getting two halls for lectures also. We need speakers to talk on FOSS. Please volunteer by mailing to Shrini or list. Multiple users with root privilege can exists in a system. However there will be only one user name 'root'. It is not 'root' that determines the privileges , but it is the uid in /etc/passwd that determines. You can have multiple users with root privilege by doing following steps 1. Copy the line containing root user information in /etc/passwd into a new line and change the name 'root' some thing else say 'root1'. 2. Copy the line containing root in /etc/shadow into a new line and change name 'root' into 'root1' 3.Now you can login as root1 and get all root privileges. You can change password for this user. Debian has hwinfo package which gives extensive information about hardware. Possible way to solve your problem 1.Install hwinfo 2.Run hwinfo at boot time - save the output 3.Create a git repo and commit this 4.Write a startup script which will run every subsequent boot to create hwinfo output and commit the changes with some automatic header something like 'hwinfo as on date' 5.use git log to know the changes Raman.P blog:http://ramanchennai.wordpress.com/ ___ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
