 This is good.Before going to check every thing kindly check your available
RAM.Because when we are using DB , it occupies a lot of RAM.
 #free -m
now you can get available RAM and Free space also.
then run this command to clear cache in RAM
#sync
#echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches

Then you can get a lot of RAM to run your application

hi Selvakumar,

Which flavour of linux are you using?
Try Audacious if you're in any new platforms, still you may have to
circumvent the mp3 codec license issue...!
Its the old XMMS in new bottle..
BTW, if you're serious about Os try converting you existing collection to
OGG vorbis and distribute only OGG..as its royality free...

Thanks,
Ramkumar

Re: [Ilugc] [OT] scheme, LISP which is better?

2009-07-16 Thread Ramkumar R
> Can some experts suggest which one is better(Scheme or LISP), in terms of:

The following is my personal opinion after working with SBCL,
Gambit/Scheme, PLT/Scheme and Emacs Lisp.

I started off with Common Lisp and SBCL. With certain Emacs modes and
Slime, it's a pleasure to work with Common Lisp. It is, however, a
very difficult language and the Hyperspec can be very confusing. As
far as literature is concerned, I think PCL (Practical Common Lisp) is
overrated and OnLisp is a little too advanced. #lisp @irc.freenode.net
is a fantastic place to learn though.

Emacs Lisp is a slow and featureless language. After writing CL, Emacs
Lisp feels like C where every object is a LispObject* - integers have
limits, there are no closures or lexical bindings, and people often
use "global" variables. You will get no support or documentation for
this language whatsoever apart from the info pages distributed with
Emacs. People on #lisp will throw you out and people on #emacs won't
teach you how to write code. Because of its nature, it's easy to write
terrible code in Emacs Lisp. Therefore, I believe it is necessary to
first learn Common Lisp to be able to write good and elegant code in
this language. While people would generally discourage it, I've
written a huge Elisp application in CL-style. You can see it here:
http://github.com/artagnon/ublog.el

Finally Scheme. It's a minimalistic language whose complete draft
specification is the size of the index of CL's. It focuses on the
functional part of Common Lisp and has features like the famous
call/cc. However, due to its minimalistic nature, there more learning
resources than practical libraries for this language. The language is
very easy to implement too, so there are tons of implementations, each
with their own share of strengths and weaknesses- PLT/Scheme is a
probably a fantastic starting point. The distributed and recommended
editor is DrScheme- personally, it annoys me to no end that Scheme <->
Emacs isn't great. Gabmit/Scheme can compile Scheme directly to C and
is useful if you want to avoid using FFI (Foreign Function Interface).
The Wizard book (SICP: Structure and Implementation of Computer
Programs) is a great starting point for theoretical computer science
in Scheme. It's a good language to play around with continuations and
coroutines, but I'm a little skeptical about its practical
application.

p.s- You might want to look into Clojure too. It's a Lisp that
describes itself as CL without the historical baggage. It aims to
become a mainstream programming language.

Generic disk cleanup programs are pretty much useless, which is
probably why they don't exist. It depends on what you want, how much
space you're looking to recover, and on which filesystems. For
example, removing your shell history log will gain you a few KB at
most, at the cost of all your shell history! Similarly, the gains of
cleaning up package cache isn't necessarily justified. Logs are very
lightweight too. Besides, on my systems, /var is a separate LVM
partition dedicated to storing logs and package manager cache for the
most part.

First, find out which filesystems you're looking to recover space on,
then find out which folders/ files occupy large chunks of disk space
using a disk space analyzer like Baobab, Kdirstat, or simply du.

One final tip: If you're looking to gain space on / or /boot, remove
older kernels and corresponding kernel modules from /lib/modules.

One of two things I can come up with:
1. Check the flash plugin you've installed for the web browser.
2. Check audio output. If you're routing it through pulseaudio, make
sure the plugin supports output through it.

Re: [Ilugc] ssh & firefox

2009-07-04 Thread Ramkumar R
> 2. I doubt if firewalls allow tunneling or is there any filtering
> mechanism to stop / restrict the incoming data ?

Tunneling, def. transmitting data in one protocol encapsulated inside
another protocol.

Theoritically, it is impossible for a firewall to detect if you're
browsing the web or tunneling an SSH connection in your HTTP request.
For example, a typical "default configuration" Squid HTTP proxy server
(yes, proxy is one of the many firewall techniques) allows only HTTP
requests to port 80 on target machines; the proxy server itself
accepts connections on port 8080.

In your case, I'm assuming that you would like to tunnel an SSH

[Ilugc] upgrading GTK

2009-03-26 Thread Ramkumar Sundarakalatharan
Hi,
I have a open Suse 10.0 Machine and been comfortable and happy for 3 years
now. But had to resort to WinP to "work from home" primarily bcoz' of
internet connectivity issues. Now I've over come that and wish to use
Bluefish/Quanta ++ .
Now the problem is I tried using Yast with rpm and tarballs. The dependency
is unresolved, I've over 2 yrs worth of emails in evolution and the option
given by Yast is to remove evolution coz its dependency is not met by GTK
2.1.x but only on 2.0.x, where as Quanta needs a minimum of GTK 2.1.2...

plz suggest a roundabout (plz do not suggest me to archive the mails and
redeploy them)

Re: [Ilugc] Mandriva + sony ericsson + AT commands serial port issue

2009-02-22 Thread Ramkumar
Hi Friend,
   Use This one.i am using Nokia Mobile .So I Choose Nokia
Mode when i connect my mobile with PC through cable , then follow this
one
Connect your phone via datacable
open terminal & type

lsusb

now you will get the following output

ow...@owais-desktop:~$ lsusb
Bus 002 Device 001: ID :
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0421:0445 Nokia Mobile Phones
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 046d:092f Logitech, Inc.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID :
ow...@owais-desktop:~$

it is on my compter,your will not be exactly the same...

Now note the line in which NOkia Mobile Phones is written...it has two
number one is 0421 & other is 0445...we'll take these numbers as 0x421 &
0x445

0421 is the Vendor ID & 0445 is the Product ID

Now enter this command.

sudo /sbin/modprobe usbserial vendor=0x(vid) product=0x(pid)

eg, in my case::: sudo /sbin/modprobe usbserial vendor=0×421 product=0×445

Now enter this command

wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

u'll get a long output which will be like

Scanning your serial ports for a modem.
Port Scan: S0 S1 S2 S3
WvModem: Cannot get information for serial port.
ttyACM0: ATQ0 V1 E1 — OK
ttyACM0: ATQ0 V1 E1 Z — OK

ttyACM0: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 — OK
ttyACM0: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 — OK
ttyACM0: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 — OK

ttyACM0: Speed 38400: AT — OK
ttyACM0: Speed 57600: AT — OK
ttyACM0: Speed 115200: AT — OK
ttyACM0: Speed 230400: AT — OK
ttyACM0: Speed 460800: AT — OK
ttyACM0: Max speed is 460800; that should be safe.
ttyACM0: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 — OK
Found an USB modem on /dev/ttyACM0.
Modem configuration written to create.
ttyACM0: Speed 460800; init "ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0″

Notice the output says that there is a modem at /dev/ttyACM0 & max speed is
460800

now enter this command

sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf

A file will open in text editor...paste the following there
(Your phone number may vary depending on your providerCall em' now)

Phone = *99#
Username = username
Password = password
Stupid Mode = 1

You Can Also delete everything & paste this

[Dialer Defaults]
Modem = Your Modem Name(eg, /dev/ttyACM0 in my case)
Baud = ur max speed(460800 in my case)
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ISDN = 0
Modem Type = Analog Modem
Phone = *99#
Username = username
Password = password
Stupid Mode = 1

save the file & you are done

Whenevr you need to connect...open terminal & type

wvdial

wait till some sort of IP adress is displayed like

pppd: [06][06][08]` [06][08]
primary DNS address 218.248.240.135
pppd: [06][06][08]` [06][08]
secondary DNS address 218.248.240.79
pppd: [06][06][08]` [06][08]

Now you are connectedhit cntrl+c to dissconnect...

You can also create a laucher on desktop(application in terminal) & keep the
command as wvdial..now double click it to connected connected.
