Re: [Ilugc] How to change the inode number using VFS

2010-01-25 Thread rajkumar vbalakrishnasamy
Sorry.I am doing final year project and the full paper can downloaded from
this link
*
http://www.ziddu.com/download/8316219/tybyIntegratingSteganographyTechniqueinLinuxKernel.doc.html
*

base paper for our project:
*
http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/Xplore/login.jsp?url=http%3A%2F%2Fieeexplore.ieee.org%2Fiel5%2F4910763%2F4925076%2F04925089.pdf%3Farnumber%3D4925089&authDecision=-203
*

The Concept of the project is that we are developing a file security system
with biometric authentication and using stenography to hide the file
information. But instead of hiding the whole file information into image or
any stenography technique .we are just hiding the file's inode structure
details such as block number, inode no etc,. which will be fast and
efficient approach instead of hiding the entire file

*Details of Project:*

   - OS used is Fedora core 6.0 Linux
   - File security with Biometric finger print reader authentication
   - Front using java which used as a file manager

CDAC Mumbai, Kharghar centre, has been conducting a series of lecture demos
to introduce you to the wide range of high quality software available in
open source. A list of upcoming seminars is given below. To attend a
seminar, please register on or before the specified closing date. If you
want any other specific software to be taken up at a future seminar, please
let us know. If you are expert in any open source software and would like to
demonstrate it, please contact us with relevant details. You may also send
this information by posting a comment to http://www.ossrc.org.in/forum .

Time & Venue: 09:30 to 12:30, on third Saturday of every month at Kharghar
campus of CDAC.

Upcoming Seminars -

• NLTK - NLTK [Natural Language Processing Toolkit] is a complete Open
Source suite of Python modules, linguistic data and documentation for
research and development in Natural Language Processing. It provides
utilities for many NLP tasks like chunking, stemming and parsing to name a
few. It is a useful tool for students, professionals and researchers
interested in Natural Language Processing and is widely used by NLP
community all over the world.

• GNU Build System - The GNU build system provides an environment to a
computer programmer that helps them make their software/packages portable
across platforms (at least for Unix-like operating systems). It also makes
the build process easier for the user, allowing him/her to use just a small
set of commands to build the software/package from its source code and
install it.

April 17th, 2010 (registration closes on April 14th, 2010)

Bug tracking systems MantisBT and Bugzilla: A bug tracking system is a very
important tool in the software development process. Programmers and quality
assurance people rely on it to keep track of reported bugs in their work. A
database storing the bug data is a vital component of a bug tracking system.
In a more general sense, a bug tracking system can be used as an issue
tracking system to keep track of important issues in any project. Both
MantisBT and Bugzilla are free, open source, web based bug tracking systems.

• MantisBT is written in PHP, uses MySQL/ MSSQL/ PostgreSQL database, and
works with Apache/ IIS webserver. It can be installed on Windows, Linux, Mac
OS and OS/2.
Easy to set up and use, it is very popular.

• Bugzilla is written in Perl, uses MySQL/ PostgreSQL/ Oracle database, and
works with Apache web server. It is recommended to be installed on Linux or
Solaris, but can be installed on Windows (with some efforts). With powerful
features, it is used by many well known open source and proprietary
softwares.

On the horizon

• Eucalyptus

• Hadoop

• Drupal

• SuTra (an Intelligent Suggestive Translation assistance tool , developed
by CDAC)

Re: [Ilugc] Alternative to AutoCAD

2010-05-22 Thread rajkumar vbalakrishnasamy
Hi,

I know some of them are:

1.KAD - KDE aided design is a complete
2D CAD system based on QCad by ribbonsoft. It is suited for both beginners
and experienced CAD users.2.CYCAS is a piece of architectural software for
drafting and design in 2 + 3 dimensions.

3.CAM Expert is the commercial big brother to Qcad. It has a similar
interface to Qcad, but with extended features leaning more towards the
creation of NC-programs.

4.CADDA software is a true CAD/CAM solution that offers CAD and CAM
functionality within one user interface. CAD-data can be imported as 3-D or
2-D models
.
5.Varicad offers 3-D solids and 2-D drafting at a very nice price. The user
has the options of the icon panels or the pull-down menus. Although I like
the text-based menu (pull down), I did
find the ``Commands'' nested a bit too deep.

[Ilugc] Linux usage statistics

2010-05-25 Thread rajkumar vbalakrishnasamy
Hi ilugcies,
I recently googled about Linux usage statistics all over the world
and found some information on that but the information shows only 1% use of
Linux globally in desktop market, is this wiki article is fake or real. And i
also found in some websites that Linux market share is high and w3c's
statistics is also wrong. So,please comment on this or we have to analyze the
actual usage statistics and modify the wiki content. And also we can find
some more ideas to bring awareness on foss.

I believe that it depends upon the attitude of the people because during
past one month my windows xp is corrupted, but I was using dual booted
Windows and Ubuntu super os.And on that time my brother and his friends
were using Ubuntu super os only but now even though after installing
windows xp they prefer to work only in ubuntu and i asked them why they like
ubuntu just told that they are comfortable with ubuntu because they can
install even windows games [nfs, gta etc,.] in ubuntu and ubuntu super os
comes with default support for all media types and also bundles with famous
media players like VLC,Real Player etc.And too games and special graphical
effects[like compiz, beryl, awn etc,.] which was amazed by most of my friends
too..

And even student of 5th grade in delhi public school learn Linux and in
Bangalore through ambedkar slum computing center the slum children [mostly
they are low educated] learn Linux and using gimp for drawing art and
optimizing their photography.

Most of the people I know think Linux is very difficult for a layman to
understand. They fear that after installing Linux they will not be able to
do the normal tasks they do with Windows and thus they prefer paying money
to Microsoft instead of even trying Linux.

There are lot of applications you can bring to cloud. Some of the simple
applications like Library Management,Time Table Management. And some advanced
software's like Version control system,Compilers etc.

The thing is not the application you bring but how far you understand the
cloud computing
concepts is that matters. And i am also trying to do project in cloud
computing.

Re: [Ilugc] Best nosql database

2010-09-11 Thread rajkumar vbalakrishnasamy
Hi all,
We are developing a social networking website. We googled and found
that facebook & twitter is using cassandra, google is using bigtable and
hypertable is used by baidu&rediff. And we do not have hands on experience on
designing a database or choosing a database because this is our first
project. But if it is a language(PHP) or Technology(Cloud Computing) we have
some knowledge. But in case of Database we are fresh to that area.We do not
know how to design or manage a huge scalable high performance database.

Note: I heard MariaDB is gaining popularity now and Explanation provided by
Mohan L was very nice.It makes us to clearly focus on choosing database
based on problem.

Thank you very much.

There are lot of software products in the world but there are only fews
Indians products that are in market. We are the second in world IT.But we
only provide support and services to product developed americans.Listen to
chinese now they are dominating in softwares fields too most of the cloud
computing research paper are published by Chinese only. But in case of India
cloud computing will take to reach india after 4 or 5 years only.Chinese are
so fast and they are also in dominating software products. As they develope
fake hardwares they are also develope some fake softwares.

Note:
Infosys,CTS,TCS are only providing support and services to the american
products.Eventhough they have money they do not have guts to come against
Americans[Microsoft - if microsoft everyone who uses their product to falls
- only they want to dominate the world].We are proud to work on those
company but not developing our own standards and products.

2010-09-13 Thread rajkumar vbalakrishnasamy
> Patriotism doesn't mean creating software exclusively for one's own
country.
> Pls understand the basic ideology of Free Software clearly.

I am not against open source and free software.
I am not money minded like proprietary software owners.
We love open source. so you are advising or suggesting me the "the basic
ideology of Free Software clearly".

But i am creating project using crowd sourcing [ It is advanced than social
networking and this feature is not available in facebook or any social
media i believe ] concept which is now emerging.

since it deals with crowd [ a large number of Internet users or a
community].We thought that there will be huge number hits to our servers.so
we cannot use the traditional database like oracle or mysql.so we have to
switch over to Most efficient databases, web servers, languages, scripts
etc,.That's why i posted "Best nosql database".

And i believe that "Brazil and India: The Next Generation of Open Source"
refer: http://www.opensource.org/node/528

So when i develop software or website i will use open source software and
if needed we will
included some features or contributions to those softwares.

And i use the term social networking because most of them might not known
about crowdsourcing.I did not mention i am going to make another facebook
[facebook is only used as entertainment media mostly].
Apart from entertainment we can use social networking or crowdsourcing for
disaster management and many more.please refer below ted talks to know more
about crowdsourcing and its uses

refer: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/ted-talks-social-media/

And i am not telling that only Indian product should dominate the world but
i think in the international perspective
India is second in the IT industry but we are just application developers or
users but not inventors. We do not invented or contributed to a compiler or
any other system tools, languages etc,.I thought our contribution is less to
the world even thought there are more than 5 lakhs IT sector employee are
there. This trend is slowly changing nowadays, lots of inventions are made
india eg: Pranav Mistry[he make his innovation as open source] .But the
change is very low.

I welcome the open source philosophy and its cross culture interactions
,contributions.

Note:
We have heard about GNU Social and waiting for diaspora code to
released.
But now only we started the project. We initially concentrated on
ideas and not on technology so even though we have heard about the GNU
Social we haven't tried it. Thank you for ilugc to making us to realize
the GNU Social.

our hands"
