 Hi

Does any one know where could I get some Computer Based Video Tutorials for
Puppet for managing GNU\Linux server ?

I would be really happy if there are free alternatives oppose to the one
who sell the knowledge for money (Not intended against anyone). Anyway do
let me know even if it is going to cost money.

Have you tried the docs on puppet? Anything lacking there that you
are looking for video tutorials?

My method of self training -- try it on a couple of VMs, post errors
in the respective mailing lists and get the solutions from the guru's
keyboard :)

I have neither used puppet nor chef, comments are based upon sessions I attended
@ gnuNify 2012 (SICSR, Pune) earlier this year.

The talks on puppet and chef were given by senior sys admins, so it
was not fluff material. Both presenters handled the QA part very
well answering technical questions given the time constraints of
clearing the room for the next event :(

My *personal impression* (do intend to start emacs/vi type discussion
here): chef appeared to have an edge over puppet. Of course, in the
FOSS world this keeps changing with the new releases of the respective
suites. A Google search for 'puppet chef sysadmin' brings up quite a
few postings on both.

I would suggest that (from a career point of view) you look @ both
puppet and chef as arsenal in your resume. Both are powerful tools
for automating sys admin activities in a data center like scenario.

Best,

I am looking at the docs now, Video tutorials yes I love them a lot,
which helps me give a class room feeling where I can take notes and try it.

This is the best http://docs.puppetlabs.com/learning/, I came
across. But there might be others. Keep looking. Most other documents
available online are brief. Also there is this book
http://www.amazon.com/Pulling-Strings-Puppet-Configuration-Management/dp/1590599780.

And http://forge.puppetlabs.com/ is an excellent place to look for
reusable snippets. Personally I like this resource
https://github.com/jwiegley/puppet-config.

There will be initial blocks but once you overcome that puppet is an
excellent tool.

Thanks and Regards

and if you are attending ILUG-C meeting is it possible for you to give a
small demo or take a small session on the same?

I am going through the links which you gave me.
