Registering the domain name is only for ownership. You have to specify
the name servers which can resolve your domain name. In many cases, the
registrar themselves provide DNS services using which you can specify
the A record to resolve to an IP.

If your registrar don't provide DNS services, you might have to get a
DNS solution elsewhere or setup one yourself. Once you know the
IP/hostname of the nameserver (DNS server), you can update it with the
registrar.

On a side note, You don't necessarily need a static ip if you can live
with 2 mins downtime/day in case of a dynamic ip.

I hope you have tested your setup by connecting with the IP directly
before purchasing the domain.

You are not going to do port forwarding. You should configure a DMZ host.

You can buy a domain from www.net4.in for around 500/- a year or
you could buy from someone else and point your static to it.

You have to update (or add) your ip address to the domain name. You can get
info for those from the domain name vendor itself. Once this is done after
a one day hitting your domain will give your page properly.

[Ilugc] Web site hosting query

2012-01-15 Thread Suresh Kumar
Hi,

I have registered the domain name with the domain registrar.
For hosting, i would like to do it on my home desktop(running apache
server. wordpress ) . i do have broadband connection with the static public
ip from the internet vendor.
I will do the port forwarding on the broadband router .

I dont know, how to do the DNS for the domain name i registerd with my
static ip.

Am i missing any other steps?

thanks
