Re: [Ilugc] what's the economics of a FOSS business..pls help.
Adding to the list of reading material suggested by others: Introduction to Economic Analysis by Preston McAfee. Its available at http://www.introecon.com Its hard core economics book which I hear (no, I have not read it ) covers the economics of abundance - the underlying philosophy of free stuff - in contrast with the economics of scarcity - on which philosophy much of today's laws and business models are framed. Do tell us if you find it worthwhile :-) regds, mano ___ To unsubscribe, email ilugc-requ...@ae.iitm.ac.in with "unsubscribe " in the subject or body of the message. http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc

We just saw sun being valued for 6 Billion USD. According to market cap and revene data, I would say Redhat should be valued little less than Sun. Together Sun and Redhat are the two most important and successful FOSS companies out in todays industry. PS: I don't answer your question. But I guess these data are relevant. ___ To unsubscribe, email ilugc-requ...@ae.iitm.ac.in with "unsubscribe " in the subject or body of the message. http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc

[Ilugc] what's the economics of a FOSS business..pls help.
Hello all, Can anyone explain the economics of a typical FOSS based business... Say for example, if we take a FOSS company like Mozilla, what is its exact business model ? Since Mozilla software is free to download, where does the company actually making money ? This economic side of FOSS is still vague in many of our minds in this mailing list including me. Thanks, Selva. ___ To unsubscribe, email ilugc-requ...@ae.iitm.ac.in with "unsubscribe " in the subject or body of the message. http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
