As of now only 30,000 words are there .I am yet to push the latest code
which contains 4.8 lakh words (whose size is around 20 MB) to launchpad
project repository ,as i am accessing internet using my mobile GPRS .So i
can not upload the latest code and corpus collection.Please wait for a while
to get the latest code.

We have completed our first phase development of Tamil Spell Checker for
GNU/Linux with the following basic features
1)Contains 27989 tamil words.
2)Includes only 3 buttons.
3)marks the mis-spelled word while displaying it.

a very important factor - who does translations? Not software developers. The 
people who do are the endusers who *require* translation. You want a tamil 
translation of say, drupal. You will only get it when someone wants to build 
a drupal based site in Tamil - not before. There are a few people like Amachu 
or Kartik Mistry and some others who translate for love of their native 
language - but these are exceptions. I would warrant that 90% of the web 
developers on this list - or developers on this list - do not write i18n 
code. They do not feel the need - there *is* no need. And translation where 
there *is* a need is a very trivial matter. I once developed a site where 
there was a need for both english and finnish. All I did was send the 
relevant .po files to the client, she dug up poedit in windows and did the 
needful in a day or two - and still updates it when needed. 

So go create endusers in local languages for your software - translations will 
happen.

Hi Ramadoss,
There is no point in getting frustrated. Everyone has their own limited time
& have their priorities in life. You cannot demand contributions.

If you dont get good response, you have to look inwards and see how you can
make your project tempting enough for other contributors to jump in.

More important is how motivated you or the creator of the project
is(irrespective of whether u get contribution or not).

It was really heartening to see you code for the cause of Tamil, last
Saturday. Two years back, while taking up translations work (than coding as
priority), thought there are lot of techies around and there will be enough
number of  programmers coming forward to code and contribute for Tamil after
seeing discussions in mailing lists around.

That turned out to be a myth. At times used to feel, even deaf and dumb
(with due respect to them) used to get more encouragement and contributions
than people knowing to read, write and communicate effectively in Tamil
alone.

Hats off to you & all programmers who code for the cause of their respective
languages & society. Hope more people join the efforts and myth becomes
reality.

தாங்கள் சொற் பட்டியலைத் தாண்டி இதனை மேம்படுத்த என்ன திட்டம்
வைத்திருக்கிறீர்கள் என்று அறியலாமா? சொற் பட்டியல் முதற்படி. தொடர்ந்து
விகுதி சேரும் போது பிழை சொல்லாது இருப்பது குறித்து (காதல் - காதலால் -
காதலில் - காதல்கொண்டு ..), சந்திப் பிழை, இலக்கணப் பிழைகள் (அவன்

list but i couldnt get it.
(server takes too long to respond) will be thankful, if you give the exact

Yes. To use it effectively over the net, you need sobby as well which is 
a dedicated server for editing documents.

Maybe NCRFOSS can run a instance of that. You need to setup a mechanism 
for authentication as well.  However, there is no effective revision 
control or locking and you can lose data accidentally or otherwise, very 
easily unless it is a small group.

thank you for your valuable suggestion,i actually tried with gtk Treeview
and Liststore to display list of item  ,but its truly hard to use and
finding the selected item(as i am new).

Now i am trying with kiwi-python module's ObjectList.

suggestions are welcome.

especially by the Indian team.

We are planning to have a standard dictionary.. volunteers each one
can take care of one letter..

In few months time we can arrive at 1,00,000 words

There is already some work by Srinivasan in Ruby for splittings words,
which can come handy later..

aspell-ta uses plain text with single word in a line, as of now there are
only 14,000 tamil words.

Many commonly used words are not there eg  காதல்,
we need help to collect, organize and index  Tamil  words for that we are
using google doc now

Can you check with the default Spell Checker Dialog in Gedit and note 
how the UI looks. Much better example with be the one in Kate if it does

how does aspell organise the word list? Why do you need to use google docs? 
Why do you not do it on your own machine? If you have the list under version 
control, you can work offline and commit online - in which case your 
connection speed is irrelevant.

program.
