Re: [ilugd] Mentor Required
But I thought nessus _WAS_ open source :) Akshay Lamba wrote: I have been using vmware for quite a while and found it to be really flexible and worth the moolah. Why don't you download the eval and try it out for yourself. Does anyone know a open-source alternative? Also, can anyone give me names of open source vulnerability assessment softwares like nessus? They are not forcing you to buy their work,... rather by providing their evaluation versions they are actually helping you to make an informed decision. They are charging you for the benefits that they feel they bring you, and most of their customers are more than willing to pay the price. From the point of view of the customers business, the money that they charge is more than made up from the benfits of the software. I heard that the VMWare workstation costs about 20k .. how much does a separate machine cost you? - Sandip -- Sandip Bhattacharyahttp://www.sandipb.net sandip at puroga.com Puroga Technologies Pvt. Re: [ilugd] Firewall implimentation
The best form of iptables implementation (IMHO) is through shorewall. Shorewall provides an abstract layer for IPTABLES, gives a professional look and feel. Moreover configuring shorewall is real simple when you use the webmin module of shorewall. You will get started with few minutes, without having to even know one line of iptables. regards, alok sinha Gurpreet Singh Sachdeva wrote: Hi Dheerendar, How are you doing?? For configuring a firewall in Linux Machine, iptables is the best option. Iptables restrict the flow of incoming and outgoing packets on the base of policies you make. The policies are considered from top to bottom. For making policies using iptables, man iptables is the best resource but you can also refer to http://www.faqs.org/docs/iptables/ Please don't forget to issue iptables-save command in the end and restarting the iptables daemon. Do let me know if you face any problem in doing that. Which program you are using to start modem? wvdial should be the easiest option. Just give appropriate modem=/dev/ttyS0 or equivalent settings in wvdial.conf Caution...I really have not looked at Fedora from this angle as I do not have modem but should work. -- Sudev Barar Learning Linux Address: D10 NH2, Faridabad 121001 Tel; +91-129-5021588 ___ ilugd mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd
