Please read the pre-requirements for spamassassin. There are a number of
perl modules that need to be installed for spamassassin to work. The
error message that you are getting is because the perl module
HTML::Parser is not installed.

[ilugd] Squid local name resolution

2004-03-25 Thread Ankur Rohatgi
X-Cranomedia Technologies-MailScanner-Information: Scanned for Spam and Virus content
X-MailScanner-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
We use squid 2.5 stable under RH9 in the office. Sometimes we have
developers working on sites that do not have DNS records but only IPs.
We do have to check the working under the dns record to be. I added the
IP and the name to the HOSTS file on the server now it is able to
atleast go to the right server. Everything is redirecting to the server
via the domain name , except the web requests. Those throw up an error
(104) Connection reset by peer . I tried searching in Google but could
not figure out what the problem is. It seems Squid is doing its own name
resolution without actually looking into the hosts file or is
disregarding the HOSTS file record if it finds nothing in the DNS for
the same name.

Anyone have any ideas how i can fix this ?

thanks,
- Ankur.

Ankur, there is an error in your Mailscanner.conf.
%org-name% should be a single word. Else the headers become invalid.
Like the X-Crano... one above.

The error message says that a host had been contacted but that host
refused a connection. Squid does have some dns helper programs which
sometimes does pretty developer-unfriendly things like DNS caching etc.
Have you tried using a packet sniffer to find what is going on?

Re: [ilugd] Distribution CDs for Red Hat 9 Linux distribution available :)

2004-03-25 Thread Vipul Mathur
Hi Sandip,

Long time no C ( by me ;-) )

Sandip Bhattacharya wrote:
[snip]
Whenever a distribution ISO is offered for download, the ISO creators
also include an MD5SUM checksum for people to verify both the
authenticity and integrity of the image. This is a check against:
1. Somebody distributing malware in the name of the original CD
2. Problems in the download which can corrupt the CD image.
[snip]
Now the problem is that the whole process of copying of CDs from one
media to another, introduces artifacts in the image which cause the CD
image to start differing from the original downloadable image. The
results show in wildly different md5sums of the first generation and
second generation copies.
[snip]
So a volunteer CD distributor like me have no way to find out whether a
difference in Md5sum is because the image is corrupted or because the
copying process modified the image in some harmless way.
Have faced this problem many times before. I solved it by rsyncing the
.iso dump to the original .iso file on a known authentic server,
whenever I extracted it from a CD with tools such as dd or cdrdao.

Works peacefully!

For the uninitiated, rsync is used here to download only the
difference bytes between the remote (correct) .iso image and the local
(damaged) .iso dump.

Re: [ilugd] network unreachable error

2004-03-25 Thread Ritesh Agrawal

i had installed redhat 9 on my machine which is having
two network cards rtl8139(both) eth1 is connected to
my local lan through hub and the other card (eth0) is
connected to the hub of cable guy who provides net
access to us ;after activating cards with the
following configuration i am unable to ping to my
cable guys gateway 172.16.50.1 says network
 unreachable

 the config of eth0
 ip 172.16.12.146
 subnet mask 255.255.255.0
 default gateway 172.16.50.1

 the config of eth1
 ip 192.168.0.3
 subnet mask 255.255.255.0
connected to local lan and working fine

the same config i have on windows which works fine
 pls suggest

 regds
 srinivas

you have to add default gateway in your routing table.
first confirm me me what IP address is given to use as ISP gateway becoz
172.16.(12).146 and 172.16.(50).1 are not in same network segment. then
you have to execute following command

#echo 1 /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

If still problem exist , feel free to contact me 011 33110530

Re: [ilugd] Squid local name resolution

2004-03-25 Thread Ritesh Agrawal

We use squid 2.5 stable under RH9 in the office. Sometimes we have
developers working on sites that do not have DNS records but only IPs. We
do have to check the working under the dns record to be. I added the IP
and the name to the HOSTS file on the server now it is able to
atleast go to the right server.

Anyone have any ideas how i can fix this ?

 thanks,
 - Ankur.

run squid as #squid -D
it disables squid's internal DNS lookup
 for more info #squid --help
