[ilugd] Upgrading apache

2004-09-03 Thread Abhishek Jain
Hello,

I am facing some trouble while upgrading apache (httpd-2.0.40-21).
This version was the default packaged with Redhat linux 9, it works
fine and i have been using it since last 5-6 months. Now I need to
update this to a version greater than 2.0.47 as my JRun application
server's connector requires it. While trying upgrading it to
2.0.50(latest httpd from apache.org) i got multiple dependency errors
and even after installing with force and ignoring few dependencies i
was unable to get it up. Then from some site i got rpm of
httpd-2.0.47, as i read somewhere that RHL-9.0 could support it. Still
got the same result so ultimately had to rollback to httpd-2.0.40-21
from cd.

Could somebody point out a resource/doc/rpm, that would help me upgrade apache.

Regards

Abhishek Jain

Dude, if you want to stay with the latest, stick to source. There is no way
that a non-distribution RPM will get you solve all your dep problem in your
dist. Take a look at DAG or ATRpms repositories though.

Try the src rpms from them. They might be providing it too. And then
just rebuild it.. Hopefully the dependency issues will get slashed.

It works fine. Steps to make it work:

2. edit /etc/bluetooth/pin file and enter your numeric pin here.
3. start bluetooth *service bluetooth start)
4. on 6600 go to Bluetooth setting, turn it on, try search your notebook, connect it

5. make notebook "authorized".
6. on linux make /dev/rfcomm0 (mknod --mode=600 /dev/rfcomm0 c 216 0) 7. edit

8. try use minicom and access modem vi /dev/rfcomm0
9. edit ppp config files to use /dev/rfcomm0 as modem.
10. start GPRS and enjoy.

NOTE: The above email had to be formatted because there were junk characters in it.
So, if you envounter ANY errors don't curse me; I would then forward you the junk

Rebuilding apache from source did work for me. Its working fine
otherwise, but is continuously giving the following error (my
error_log in exploding at a rate of 1mb per 30 secs):

[Fri Sep 03 19:21:10 2004] [notice] jrApache[init]

[Fri Sep 03 19:21:10 2004] [notice] child pid 7738 exit signal

This is what has been added to httpd.conf

LoadModule jrun_module /opt/jrun4/lib/wsconfig/1/mod_jrun20.so

JRunConfig Verbose true
JRunConfig Apialloc false
JRunConfig Ssl false
JRunConfig Ignoresuffixmap false

JRunConfig Bootstrap 127.0.0.1:51003
#JRunConfig Errorurl
AddHandler jrun-handler .jsp .jws

Can somebody indicate on possible reason's of these Segmentation
Faults? is there a problem with mod_jrun20.so?

[ilugd] [COMMERCIAL] Wanted: Senior Systems Engineer (3+ years)

2004-09-03 Thread Shuvam Misra
Dear all,

We have an opening for a Senior Systems Engineer, 3+ experience, based
in Mumbai. This person will be spending most of his/her time working
in our product development team. Our software product is primarily a
messaging and server monitoring system, plus optional modules for network
monitoring, firewall integration, etc. The product works on Linux and
Unix platforms; all our customers for this product so far have been on
the Linux platform.

In our company, the culture is pretty techie. All users work on Linux
desktops. Marketing material, product technical reports, letters to
regulatory authorities, etc, are almost always done on LaTeX. Income
Tax Form 16 is prepared using an XFig template. And so on

The selection process will involve a C programming test followed
by a personal interview. We will prefer 3+ years of experience but will
also look at less experience for exceptional professionals. And please
understand that this is not a pure "software job", because we don't feel
that people who have only done coding can be of much use in our product
team. We need someone who will occasionally debug problems on running
systems at client sites, so that this insight is incorporated into our
product offerings later. And sysadm experience of heavily loaded servers
is a big advantage for a role in our product team.

Responsibilities:

- Software development on system programming-type projects
- Installation and troubleshooting for Linux servers, WANs,
  firewalls, etc
- Network, server and DBMS performance analysis and tuning
- R & D on unfamiliar software, products, protocols

Profile desired:

- Excellent, not merely good, C programming skills
- Thorough knowledge of Perl
- Hands-on experience in Linux/UNIX operating systems
- Clarity and good understanding of the fundamentals
of operating systems, network protocols, and optionally,
  security issues
- Experience in Java will be an added advantage

Qualification:

- A B.Sc. degree, preferably in physics or math, or
- BE/B.Tech/MCA

Please can you reply to me with your resume? And it would be nice if
the resume is in PS/PDF/plain text.

regards,
Shuvam Misra

What I require is someone who (a) can spell and (b) knows the Question
of Life, the Universe and Everything (the one whose answer is 42).
I'm glad you believe that you know all these things, though I have
serious doubts about (a). Maybe knowing the Question entitles you to
find new and innovative ways of breaking the English language.

Damn, I didn't get your resume. Should be interesting -- just to
satisfy my curiousity, how long have you known the Question anyway?
